TikTok CEO testifies before Congress

Did he get any prep before coming to testifie? My god, I feel bad for him, I live Tiktok, but he isn't helping at all.

Agree.

He is doing a terrible job. I don’t believe anyone thinks he is telling the truth.

In a sad and pathetic way, it’s humorous how he’s able to spew such obvious BS with a straight face.

It’s pathological, actually.

10 bucks says this guy gets on social media or MSM in the next few days and claims Congress was being anti-Asian American in its hostile questioning.

TikTok is f#cked. US social media is already banned in China, so think of this as a reciprocal response.

TikTok, as with most social media, is certainly disruptive, addictive, and basically the wild west for kids.

My DH has a specific job in cybersecurity (gov) and a friend's husband is a cybersecurity/counterterrorism expert and both are anti-TikTok.

Ill take their expertise.

Keep your 10 bucks and just agree to stop posting your nonsense on DCUM instead.

Both parties in congress are against TikTok.

This rare bipartisan agreement against TikTok tells everyone just how horrible, atrocious, and malicious TikTok really is.

The members of Congress are privy to classified intelligence not available to the public.

They obviously have very good reason to oppose TikTok.

I am so glad they had this hearing. Hopefully, parents will hear how detrimental this social media is to their kids and to national security.

So what your kids will just move on to the next Tik Tok. I don't see the real difference being made here.

One battle at a time. And, I am glad they are starting with the social media app owned by the CCP.

Just don’t understand who gets this “educational videos”
All my DD gets is videos on failing classes, skipping school and or classes, vaping, and then dancing videos.

He prepped for legitimate questions and there were some (shadow banning, for example). But most of the questions were really stupid and you could tell he was like “do I really have to explain the internet to these people?” at points.

And the bit about how Tiktok didn’t suppress misinformation about using veterinary meds for COVID was rich when the same people decry censorship of conservative viewpoints if action was taken on social against those accounts.

But the reactions on this forum show that a lot of Americans don’t understand the real issue here and think a congressman who yells and has posters is right no matter how foolish their message is.

Her feed is telling on her.

She’s engaging with those topics and therefore Tiktok has learned that her interests lie there.

My Tiktok feed is 100% books. I engage with book content and that’s what Tiktok knows I like.

Anyone familiar with Tiktok kind of laughs at people saying all they see is sex and drugs. You’ve told the app that’s what you like by watching those videos completely. If you scroll or hit “not interested,” the app stops showing you those kinds of videos.

Talk to your kid about what she’s engaging with. I tiktok is reacting to her behavior.
