Tbh, I think TikTok and other social media platforms should be quite limited in what they should serve up to children. China has limits on how long the kids can use the apps (40 minutes per day) and the content displayed (topics focused on education, science, tech, sports, history, etc). The Chinese know that social media is harmful to developing brains, and probably even adults too. https://nypost.com/2023/02/25/china-is-hurting-us-kids-with-tiktok-but-protecting-its-own/amp/ https://www.technologyreview.com/2023/03/08/1069527/china-tiktok-douyin-teens-privacy/amp/ I feel like this is the next Big Tobacco case - we instinctively knew for a long time it was unhealthy, but we truly did not understand the full effects and in fact we were lied to by the purveyors.
+1000 and I don’t understand why people (especially liberals) aren’t seeing this. They think banning TikTok is some right-wing initiative to make people dumb. HELLO. TikTok is what is making people dumb (on the left and right and center and wherever). It needs to be gone, or there need to be strict limits on it like on cigarettes.
