I wish I knew if she vapes or not, She said she never skipped but login to Parents vaue she has a few Unexcused Tardy to classes and 2 unexcused absence, but she said her teacher mark her absent by mistake. She isn't failing any classes |
Did you see how Congress was hostile and rude to him? Did you see how many times he was interrupted all while trying to keep calm and sane despite the rude AF questions, not to mention the glaringly stupid ones? I mean, these are people who know nothing about the internet, yet they'll be making decisions on how Americans should use it. I'm shocked; and I'm even more shocked that they can quickly come together in a bipartisan manner to focus on TikTok but somehow can't agree on gun reform Like these people care about kids, my ass. |
China does. They don't allow the latter content to be available. |
The internet is not some unmanageable landscape. And this BS about how they cant control what is viewed or produced or available is exactly that, BS. |
|
Wait. You actually think it's one app's job to moderate the entire internet? I'm going to suggest that Facebook, instagram, and Twitter have way more misinformation than Tiktok. Tiktok is probably one of the better social media apps when it comes to filtering content. That's part of the reason Meta is spending so much money trying to take Tiktok down. Tiktok is doing it better and has made facebook/instagram even more irrelevant. |
Did you see how the CEO evaded questions? Did you see how his responses weren't an "answer" to the questions asked of him? You haven't seen too many hearings if you think he was interrupted. Often times, he tried to respond when he was not asked a question. Other times, he was attempting to filibuster with irrelevant details. And, in terms of their knowledge of the internet..... we have lawmakers who know nothing about firearms, but will be making decisions regarding those. We have lawmakers who have never been to war or have no family members who have been to war, yet they are the ones who declare war. We have lawmakers who know nothing about meteorology, but think they know enough to pass laws dealing with climate change. I would argue that they know a hell of a lot more about the internet than other topics that they pass laws about. |
Am I supposed to fee bad for a Chinese company operating in the US in market segment where US companies are banned in China? |
I don't care about TikTok, the company. Care about the 150M Americans who use it, some who get a ton of good from it, including making a living from it. It's the only app where people can actually get raw, unfiltered content that hasn't been massaged by the media. This is about freedom of expression and speech, and interestingly, the US government doesn't want us to have that. I don't see the outrage for Facebook/Instagram who have tons of data on us. Where's their outrage whenever a school shooting happens? I wish they could come together just as quickly to actually do something about that. |
You should. A Chinese owned company controlled by the CCP. And, you think it is "unfiltered?" |
I did not see that. I saw them ask "yes or no" followed by a question that would require a technical answer. I saw him a bit stunned that they were showing a shocking amount of ignorance about tech and privacy laws. I saw him answer questions and then be told "I find that hard to believe" over and over again. They didn't want him to answer questions. They wanted to grand stand. There are so many parodies of the hearing flying around social media right now because anyone who actually knows social media found the whole thing pretty ridiculous. |
And you think the congressman who was outraged that Tiktok can access a home's WiFi network and the other one who said, "Can you say with a hundred percent certainty that TikTok does not use the phone's camera to determine whether the content that elicits a pupil dilation should be amplified by the algorithm?" should be part of the decision process? |
No I think that point of moderating and regulating the internet is Congress job and should NOT be left to "private" companies. They should all be held accountable. And I don't know why you have such a hard-on for TikTok. You act like they are a victim. They are not. Kids are. Remember that. States are doing more, like Utah "The new Utah laws — H.B. 311 and S.B. 152 — require that social media companies verify the age of any Utah resident who makes a social media profile and get parental consent for any minor who wishes to make a profile. They also force social media companies to allow parents to access posts and messages from their child’s account. The laws also prohibit social media companies from displaying ads to minors, showing minor accounts in search results, collecting information about minors, targeting or suggesting content to minors, or knowingly integrating addictive technologies into social media apps used by minors. They also impose a curfew on the use of social media for minors, locking them out of their social media accounts between 10:30 p.m. and 6:30 a.m. based on the location of a user’s device, unless adjusted with the consent of a parent. " Great. Good. Thumps Up! |

so if they sell it to a place in the "US" it wont be banned
One option the U.S. government may be encouraging is for TikTok to spin off from its Beijing parent so it can be acquired by a U.S. company. But the list of suitors for TikTok could be short, with the service likely costing between $40 billion and $100 billion, according to Business Insider, while any deal would likely attract scrutiny from antitrust enforcers. I believe the bill will fail, but even if it does they will have time to "sell parts of it |
This! There are 2 parts to Tik Tok issue: one is the privacy issue that affects all social media companies and the other issue is that the parent company of Tiktok is based in China and therefore the CCP can access US population data. The 2nd part is a real concern. The fact that both sides of the house were united on this issue should communicate how serious this is. |
