Richard Montgomery in lockdown?

Anonymous
The information from the school is that a student reported seeing an individual with a gun to the administration who promptly locked the school down and called the police. I have not seen confirmation that there was a gun.

Dear RM Community,

The purpose of this message is to make you aware that at approximately 12:50 p.m. we moved into a lockdown due to a report of a student seeing an individual brandish a gun on the exterior of the building. We immediately secured the building and contacted the Rockville City Police Department. In collaboration with the police department, at approximately 1:15 p.m. we moved to a shelter in place and students remained in their 5th period class out of an abundance of caution. Students will be dismissed from 5th period at the regularly scheduled time and there is additional police presence on site. After school activities are cancelled, however our home basketball games will be played as scheduled. Additional information will be provided.

Thank you,

Alicia Deeny

Principal

This is pretty good, detailed info! Maybe MCPS is learning from its mistakes....

Great job leaving out what is publicly known. This was the second time these two men were at Richard Montgomery High School today. They arrived in a car and a truck and ran off into the woods. They weren't apprehended.

Thanks for clarifying. I was wondering about this.

Were the two men students from Gaithersburg HS? Or is that just a rumor?

How are everyone's kids doing? Lockdowns are anxiety-provoking. I feel for these kids.

group of students from Gaithersburg were at the school, possible MS13 affiliation with kids at RMHS. Gun was shown allegedly but not brandished.

Definitely a bit stressful for the kids. My kid was peppering me with questions last night, but parents didn’t get any more info than the kids.

Heard this also. Gangs/drug related incident.

Seems like it should be easy to identify the kids involved from both RM and Gaithersburg.

Definitely a bit stressful for the kids. My kid was peppering me with questions last night, but parents didn’t get any more info than the kids.

My 14 yr old DD told me that when they went on lockdown, lights were turned off, and everyone hid (or tried to), and several girls were crying, including DD. She said they were pretty scared because they didn't know what was going on.

She also told me that some kids don't seem to understand the words "keep quiet", as they were talking in not a quiet whisper. The teacher had to keep telling the kids to be quiet, but some of the kids just wouldn't listen.

If this had been a situation where a shooter was walking the halls listening for people, that class would've been targeted.

Please remind your kids to take lockdowns seriously and follow the teacher's instructions.

Well....I mean you're not wrong. I obviously have no idea what was left out, but just comparing this note to the notes the principal at our DCC high school sends, and this one was way more specific and timely.

If this is true, then doesn't that mean they know who the kids are and can hold them accountable?

LOL

Do you have any idea what MCPS high schools are like?

Kids at RM can’t even access the 3rd floor bathrooms because they are closed off due to bad student behavior. There are lots of kids who clearly have no interest in following any rules whatsoever. Good luck asking them to stay ‘quiet’ for an hour.

Depends on their race. Most likely, MCPS will sweep this under the rug. Parents received the email posted, but there has been no other official communication regarding the issue or if the suspects with the gun were caught or not.

Honestly, I think parents have a right to know if the Gaithersburg students were caught and if there are MS13 members at the school.

Who's the target at RM and who is looking after them? If there were an SRO in the school, the SRO would know. And the police departments could offer protection.
