If your kids didn’t see the gun please don’t say it was confirmed. |

Richard Montgomery High School is currently in a Shelter-in-Place and was briefly in Lockdown due to an unverified report of a gun on campus. 911 emergency services have been contacted. We will update the school community with any information as it becomes available and is confirmed.
Email at 1:34 Pm Our communication will come as frequently as is possible dependent upon safety and in collaboration with emergency responders. Please do not come to the school or call and text your children as doing so may put you or your children in unnecessary danger. My kid says...
the police say there is no credible threat anymore Dismissal should be at normal time |
you're right. I should know better than to trust what my kids say as "truth". LOL Seems like they are still shelter in place and not going to 6th period. |

I've bene listening to the scanner this whole time and the police do not seem at all concerned. There's been almost no discussion of it, and I never once heard anyone from the police say that anyone saw anyone with a gun inside the school. They said two males in the parking lot, who ran off into the woods in the direction of the Americana condo building. It sounds like they ditched their car -- a white truck -- in the RM parking lot, probably over near the bus loop side if they ran off towards that condo building.
So the PP kid who said they confirmed there was a gun....I'm not sure what they were confirming, but maybe just that there was a gun in the parking lot at some point earlier today. |
| Shelter in place remaining, this is getting nerve whacking |

New email just came from school with details, confirming the gun was seen outside the school. Kudos to the kid who promptly reported it, the school that promptly locked the doors and called police, and the police who were on the scene promptly.
Well done, all around. |
your kids were right. |
Thank you! |
There is apparently a video some kid took of 2 guys in the building shouting, looking for someone by name. The video is supposedly circulating amongst the kids. Yes, ITA, I should not have trusted my kid who said they heard there was a gun. |
I have to agree. Glad nobody was hurt and I hope the a$$holes who caused this all are found and addressed appropriately. |

Dear RM Community, The purpose of this message is to make you aware that at approximately 12:50 p.m. we moved into a lockdown due to a report of a student seeing an individual brandish a gun on the exterior of the building. We immediately secured the building and contacted the Rockville City Police Department. In collaboration with the police department, at approximately 1:15 p.m. we moved to a shelter in place and students remained in their 5th period class out of an abundance of caution. Students will be dismissed from 5th period at the regularly scheduled time and there is additional police presence on site. After school activities are cancelled, however our home basketball games will be played as scheduled. Additional information will be provided. Thank you, Alicia Deeny Principal |
? there was a gun? |
I think one of the police officers did reference that it was the same individuals from something earlier in the day (it was a little hard to hear). So it's entirely possible that these two guys were in the building earlier looking for someone, and then left and came back with a gun, which was seen and reported before they came into the building. The fact that they left their truck should make them easy to find, unless the truck was stolen. My child heard a rumor that they were from a different HS, but I wouldn't give that much credence. Last time there was a lockdown, there were 3 different rumors circulating and I don't think any of them were accurate. |
