| Clifton needs more apartments and affordable housing in general. |
Where? The area is zoned for 1 sfh/5 acres for environmental reasons. Because of its location right in/next to the Clifton area, The Occoquan watershed is very adversely affected by development. That is where your drinking water comes from. So, while most people who live in Clifton are truly insufferable, there is nowhere else there to build in a manner that wont adversely effect the environment. |
Right on Main street right by the train station. |
| Never been to Clifton before, so I'm going to assume its a tiny place with not alot going on. |
It is tiny but is adorable to visit. Trummers is a great restaurant, Villagio makes great pizza, Peterson's makes great ice cream, Paradise Springs makes great wine. |
Where the big open parking lot currently is? Everything else on Main Street is private property. Do you propose taking over Belle Jar and the Helmer/Barker offices by eminent domain? |
+1 My kids love getting ice cream at Peterson's and then playing on the playground at the park down the street. For a few mins, I can almost forget that I'm in NoVA, it's great. |
Fixed that (also live in Clifton). It is a cute looking street but the restaurants are not good (by DC standards). The newish French cafe, Motier, is quite good but has staffing problems and is closed often/runs out of things. If you don't live near there, Clifton is not worth visiting. |
Bungee cords |
Villagio I think is pretty decent and just a nice atmosphere... and the prices are decent. Service can be sketchy. I guess it doesn't feel much different than a typically situated DC restaurant to me. I've never been to a truly great restaurant in the entire DC area though... in 25 years. |
Yes, I think it would be a good idea. |
Just curious, exactly why would it be good idea to overdevelop an area that already doesn’t have the infrastructure to support the cut through traffic it currently has? Why must everything be developed and all look the same? There is no public transportation or access to shopping centers and people who live there like the rural feel. |
We are in a housing crisis in this area, especially an AFFORDABLE crisis. We should be doing everything in our power to deal with this swiftly and that means moving away from SFH to multi-family housing in the form of low rise apartments. |
| Why not construct more apartments over in Alexandria |
So why not do more of that over in the Westfields area where there are more empty, privately owned parcels for sale that could be rezoned/are currently being rezoned to support multi-family? There is the necessary infrastructure there to support increased density. |
