Clifton annoys me, here's why

Clifton's biggest issue is they have not developed. There is a housing crisis in America, build up the town, let more people come in

There is no infrastructure do this in Clifton. The town literally has 250 people and much of it does not even have access to sewer. Most of the land around the town of Clifton, is part of Fairfax county (also on well and septic) and it has already been developed with low density neighborhoods that are part of HOAs. Policies to promote density in this area will effectively create unwalkable islands of development that require private vehicles for almost 100% of daily transportation.

So you want to promote unwalkable density that will damage the environment?

The reason that much of Clifton and Fairfax Station is zoned the way it is, to be low density, it to minimize toxic runoff into the Occoquan Reservoir, which is the public water supply for both Fairfax and Prince William counties. Take a boat out at Fountainhead and note the difference between the counties. Fairfax Side is all forest, undeveloped, and PW is townhouses and high density right up to the river and reservoir's edge.

What are you talking about? Practically every blade of grass in the metro area gets taken for development these days.

On the one hand people are complaining about not developing Clifton. Most complaints are from those who are totally unfamiliar with the area and its proximity to the Occoquan Reservoir. Yet other posts decry the location of Clifton as too far away from anything and how it’s nowhere near public transportation, work centers, or retail.

Fairfax County has TONS of housing options. Just look at the unoccupied apartment space in the Tysons area which is already dense and near Metro. Not all of us want density so we move out to areas with less of it. How much farther out are people expected to move?
