Clifton annoys me, here's why

OP, I know that you are a troll. However you have to be more creative. There is no way that any kind of housing could be built where you are describing (the open field) because it is a flood plain. It is too muddy there to even drive when the ground gets any amount of rain. You need to find a potential site that makes sense. Like where Clifton School is. It also suffers from a serious lack of infrastructure (like the rest of the area) but at least is a buildable site. Fairfax County owns the property and could build affordable senior housing there or something. Why not go with that next time instead? You just need to be a bit more believable...

I enjoy Paradise Springs. What does the pp have against their wines?

Any news on the bypass they're supposedly studying?

Why was VDOT pouring so much money into that study of a town of less than 250???

Where? The area is zoned for 1 sfh/5 acres for environmental reasons. Because of its location right in/next to the Clifton area, The Occoquan watershed is very adversely affected by development. That is where your drinking water comes from. So, while most people who live in Clifton are truly insufferable, there is nowhere else there to build in a manner that wont adversely effect the environment.

Right on Main street right by the train station.

Where the big open parking lot currently is? Everything else on Main Street is private property. Do you propose taking over Belle Jar and the Helmer/Barker offices by eminent domain?

Yes, I think it would be a good idea.

Just curious, exactly why would it be good idea to overdevelop an area that already doesn’t have the infrastructure to support the cut through traffic it currently has? Why must everything be developed and all look the same? There is no public transportation or access to shopping centers and people who live there like the rural feel.

We are in a housing crisis in this area, especially an AFFORDABLE crisis. We should be doing everything in our power to deal with this swiftly and that means moving away from SFH to multi-family housing in the form of low rise apartments.

No.

Went there today, is a lovely town. Why would anyone want to add density too it?

There is no affordable housing crisis. Almost everyone in this area has somewhere to live. So where is the crisis? Huh? define "crisis."

Apparently “crisis” is being defined as single people who make $70k per year cannot afford to buy a house in AU Park.

Went to Clifton over the weekend and I gotta say, the town could support so many more people. I'm all for multifamily housing units being built.

Wondering why VDOT wanted to bypass the town. Makes me think Scary Terry wanted to do a deal with developers and build apartments for the illegals Dems were bussing to the county and state.

Heard it on WMAL the other day, crazy stuff.

I live near Clifton.

The entire city is in the low point of a watershed area. They really should not develop more because it will end up like Ellicott City or worse.

Most of the houses in the area use septic. If the water levels go up, due to flooding due to parking lots and overdevelopment, it’s going to be terrible for everyone who owns homes there.

It’s zoned like a farm area for a reason.

If you want more dense housing- Burke and Springfield and Fairfax are less than a mile away for a reason.

Clifton is a 1/4 square mile “city” with 300 people. Plenty of elevated land around it.
