FCPS NEW SUPERINTENDENT : Michelle Reid

I wonder why anyone would apply.

I doubt there really will be an investigation. Not sure what type of penalty there would be with violating the NDA if there was one with the panelists. However, this is just low. I know people here are saying the process should be open and th finalists parade before the community, but that is not how this works - anywhere. Being a superintendent is a balancing act at all times. If a superintendent is known to be shopping around, their credibility at home is shot. Don't know if Reid ultimately will be (or has been) offered the job. I would imagine she is a bit taken by how this is rolling out publically.

No one should blame her for looking at a job like FCPS (in theory even if you think it is a s-show currently), but this can leave bad blood at home if she declines here or is passed over in the end. Again, this is just lowbrow and makes the community look bad. I guess that is just how things are nowadays.

Thanks to them, the candidate with the experience of working in a large district (Philadelphia, then Omaha), who is a woman of color and speaks Spanish, has now withdrawn. I’m sure this Michelle Reid is nice and is competent. But she has no experience running a school system the size of FCPS.

The NAACP’s letter was ridiculously stupid and arrogant. They thought they deserved a seat on the interview panel. As if no one else there on the panel was concerned about the achievement of student of color. Hope they’re happy now.

What are you talking about? They supported Logan.

The thinking is that she was scared off by being involved in this drama. Their attempt to influence the process backfired.
Whether or not she left the process because of the letter, it was incredibly arrogant to send it in the first place. The idea that they think they deserve a seat on an interview panel is ridiculous. Every organization would like a seat.

Move on. No one is going to close schools again. Of course, there will be individual problems now that covid rates are going up and some people refuse to mask.

I was thinking about that argument you people make while I was down in FL over spring break. Seems like those schools are open just fine with no masking.

“You people.” Nice. There is an uptick in cases and it could cause disruptions since some aren’t masking and school districts can’t mandate masks anymore since their hands were tied by Youngkin. But I know that many people are not testing or reporting or keeping kids home when they’re sick. Anyways this is off topic to the thread.

I don't think it is off topic - we need a superintendent who can lead as the pandemic progresses.

Nope. By moving backwards and continuing the push for masks and forcing these stupid mitigations across the schools?

Well, Reid is not who I would to move us forward. But look who is picking her - the school board - that's why we gotta vote them out.

Don't let the door hit ya . . .

Which was the right thing to do then when the pandemic was raging and there were no remediation options. She won an award though for managing remote education well.

The new principal hasn’t started yet!

Just google her name and you'll see.
I googled her name and I don’t see. Please explain.

Hell. No. “Mama Bears” need not apply. Although at this point, they may be the only willing candidates.

Would one of the “Mama Bears” focus on academics and facilities rather than the woke nonsense that’s defined the last two years of Brabrand’s tenure?

If so, sign her up!

Nope, if anything this lady is going to LIMIT your child's access to learning only what SHE SPECIFICALLY wants them to learn. If you want your child to grow up in a land of banned books and white supremacy in public schools, then by all means.

Hey crazy person, she withdrew from the search A WEEK BEFORE THE NAACP LETTER CAME OUT. So there goes your cute little theory.

This is a really misleading post title OP, she's still a candidate. Nothing is official.

You lost that argument already:

Pandemic-related school closings likely to have far-reaching effects on child well-being

Although it was common sense for anyone to have known that - by Fall 2020 closing schools was a mistake. I'm willing to give a pass for March-June 2020.

DP, but in that case the NAACP looks particularly foolish by encouraging all their allies to advocate in support of someone who had already WITHDRAWN.

And why do they think they are automatically entitled to be heard when 99% of parents are ignored by this School Board every week.

I'm not defending the NAACP, I just think that PP needs to be better informed.

NAACP of NOVA is run almost exclusively by white people.

You mean that “Fairfax County NAACP” is run by white people. True.
