Does this mean DC school mask mandate is over?

The only reason the mandate has been dropped in DC is because there is a lawsuit from private school families. Good for them. Not sure how long it will be for DCPS though.

She’s flipping out because she wants them to stay.

Just yesterday idiots here were laughing at this suit. It won in less than 24 hours.

If you want DCPS not to be the very last place in the nation masking children in schools, consider calling Chancellor Ferebee's office today to urge him to make DCPS mask optional. CDC, DCHealth, and even the WTU now support mask choice. He needs to hear from parents who support this.

Ferebee's number is:
(202) 442-5885

Why is it hysterical? Do you think the lawsuit had nothing to do with it?

It absolutely had everything to do with the lawsuit. Bowser had every intention of keeping the mandate in place for the unforeseen future.

Four days ago, the DC SBOE released this statement:

Two days later, there was one law suit filed and another threat of a lawsuit. Within less than 24 hours, Bowser lifted the mandate, but kept DCPS mandate in place.

If this didn't have a hand in it, please do tell me what did.

Exactly. And DCPS parents should be grateful for the Catholic school parents who filed the lawsuit (after first giving Bowser a week to respond to their initial letter, which she ignored). DCPS parents should follow the same playbook -- The Mayor's continued insistence (against public health guidance) that students should wear masks is the definition of "arbitrary and capricious."

I am grateful to the Catholic schools lawsuit!

And that statement from the SBOE — what the heck?! A *month* of lead time?! That makes no sense!

And, yes, I have had it with the idea that vaccinated people should still wear masks because some people have chosen not to get vaccinated, so they should wear masks. That was fine for a while, but enough already!

A month's time to do what, exactly?

Idiots.

It won't matter at our school. I'm convinced that even if they lift the mandate, our school admin and most teacher and families will choose to continue masking. And I'm not going to force my kid to mask, so they will also continue masking because it will be what everyone in their class is doing. The explanation will be that there are immunocompromised people around (it won't matter if these are really people with a Covid vulnerability -- there are people at our school who are convinced they are more vulnerable because they have a relative with heart disease or their thyroid is sometimes out of whack).

Since they dropped the outdoor mandate, I've seen exactly 1 unmasked teacher during pick up and zero unmasked parents. And this is outside.

It doesn't matter what DCPS does. The people at our school have convinced themselves that masking is the only way to protect themselves and others, and that we should do it until there is no more Covid at all. I just don't know what to say anymore.
