Does this mean DC school mask mandate is over?

And I'm not going to force my kid to mask, so they will also continue masking because it will be what everyone in their class is doing. The explanation will be that there are immunocompromised people around (it won't matter if these are really people with a Covid vulnerability -- there are people at our school who are convinced they are more vulnerable because they have a relative with heart disease or their thyroid is sometimes out of whack).

Since they dropped the outdoor mandate, I've seen exactly 1 unmasked teacher during pick up and zero unmasked parents. And this is outside.

It doesn't matter what DCPS does. The people at our school have convinced themselves that masking is the only way to protect themselves and others, and that we should do it until there is no more Covid at all. I just don't know what to say anymore.

I would switch schools. I want my kids to go to school with the kids of sane people.

Working on it. It’s been awful watching this unfold. I would never have guessed this last year. I think people have become very entrenched in a “position” on masking that is removed from rationality. It’s no longer a decision to be made. It’s just: masks=good, no masks=bad. The end.

So are you a health professional now? What expertise do you have to say who is and isn’t vulnerable to Covid. Just because you like to breath raw air doesn’t mean everyone else has to take the same risk. This sounds like a YOU issue. Go unpack that in therapy.

I wonder if we are at the same school or if there is more than one!

That’s right — her child goes to the Immunocompromised Middle School. All the people who work there or go to school there are immunocrompromised.

At our school now, 3/4 or more of parents are unmasked.

NP but now we call breathing without a mask breathing in ‘raw air’? Come on now, please stop trying to make it sound like you will die if you break air without a mask. The left is getting just as bad as the right with this rhetoric.

Why do you feel the need to say anything to them about their choice to mask? It doesn’t impact you.

A teacher at my school said he is going to require students in his class to wear a mask. Obviously, this isn’t really going to happen, but I’m concerned that there will be harassment of those who choose to not wear a mask.

There’s a world of difference between calling it raw air vs being bothered by other people choosing to mask.

Not only is it raw, it's glueten-free and locally sourced!

Do any DCPS have vegan air? Or do I need to go to a charter for that?

Clearly it does impact her if this attitude is what drives policy at her charter.
