Does this mean DC school mask mandate is over?

Ours hasn’t even mentioned dropping the mask mandate but I think it’s because some parents will freak out if they do. My child’s classroom has also been relatively ‘mask optional’ for awhile given the number of kids I see through the window with masks off or how my child never has a mask above the nose. But I don’t mind that at all.

Our is considering it and announcing a decision next week.

Evidently Bowser thinks it's fine for rich kids to have the option to unmask in school, but the rest of us are forced to adhere to unscientific mandates that the rest of the world has abandoned:

Call and demand that public school kids get the same choice as private school kids!

Bowser's office: 202-727-2643

My kid's private high school is 99% vaccinated.
My DCPS kid's school is ?? vaccinated.

I support masks in DCPS.

I’m so tired of the unvaccinated driving policy.

The funny thing is, the unvaccinated aren't the ones that are demanding continued restrictions.

I have several unvaccinated family members. They stopped worrying about the pandemic a long time ago, and never really followed any of the restrictions or guidelines. They've made their choice, and are willing to live with the risks.

True elsewhere in the country but in DC there is a substantial population that refuses to get vaccinated, opposes vaccine mandates, but also wants masks worn forever to "protect" them

it's absurd but Bowser is pandering to them in the run up to an election

I don't think we know that. Do you have some supporting documentation for this belief? I think it's conceivable that you have people that don't want to be vaccinated and ALSO support mask optional in schools. For what reasons, I don't know, but I don't understand not wanting to vax at this stage.

All the documentation you need is how Bowser allowed them to bully her.

We especially saw this with gyms who were pleading with the mayor to be allowed to enforce a vaccine mandate and drop masks and she refused.

That doesn't make any sense. The unvaccinated bullied Bowser to require continued masking? I don't see that at all. I've only seen highly nervous vaccinated people demanding that masking continue.

Bowser knows the statistics on who is not vaccinated in the city and kowtowed to them as long as it was possible. We've finally reached a point where it was embarrassing for it to continue.

You don’t have data either that the majority who are not vax support mask optional.

No, I know I don't have data. That's my point. We don't know what particular groups think.

I really find it hard to believe that there is a significant number of people who hold this position. I've never met anyone like that, even in DC.

Yes, I think it is vaccinated people anxious about Covid who are using the less vaccinated Black population to argue that masks need to stay as a matter of equity.

So glad that specious argument lost.
