You're lucky you figured that out ahead of time--it does make it a lot less stressful to be in that position. Good luck! |
That sounds like my daughter as well. I can't wait until this whole process is over. |
| It's miserable. My DC was rejected ED. Rejected from 2 EA. Into state flagship (MD) but scholars not honors so disappointed because they want a small environment. Their safeties were not affordable (they assumed merit aid would come based on research that did not come). Waiting on 10 more RD decisions but expecting a wipeout and preparing for large state flagship big 10 experience which they really wanted to avoid. 25 ACT 3.9 UW 12 APs Amazing EC's with significant leadership. |
| Sorry I'm PP I meant 35 ACT |
Wow, I'm sorry. Mine was in a similar boat with scea and a couple other rejections. Also got into umd, but did get honors, so there's that. So far she's had some good feedback for rd (posted earlier). Hang in there, and hopefully yours will get some good news. |

DC applied ED and 6 EAs. Had approximately 4 schools targeted for RD but had done no work on applications. Got into 2 of the EAs before hearing from ED. Significant merit aid at one, negligible at another. Good fortune and got into the ED. Senioritis hit pretty hard after that, including having some difficulty finishing class work. Incomplete on fall semester grade, which fortunately changed to an A once all the work was submitted. Am concerned that may crop up again. Even the dean of the class emailed parents, reminding them they need to keep it together lest their decision is rescinded.
For all those who haven't heard - or heard anything positive - hoping that these next couple of months bring more positive news - GLTA! |
PP again. Some of those RD schools are gonna love that amazing EC! |
| My DS applied SCEA to an Ivy and was rejected, also got deferred from Georgia Tech, but accepted in UMD Honors. He is devastated, very high stats student from magnet school, perfect SAT, AP's with 5's, high level ECA's |
| High stats kids and lucky got into 2 schools for EA (Public), rejected @ ivy and 3 deferrals (private). I can't ask for more. It is just luck. We are happy that DD got into 2 schools. DD has no incentive to do anymore school work especially seeing some lower stats kid got into better schools. DD felt that private schools that have ED1, ED2 and EA are scams. Unless you apply the private schools with ED1 or ED2, don't bother, they deferred all high stats EA kids to RD because of yield protection. |
These stories make me crazy- I mean who does get in?! In some ways our process has been easier as an average student with mediocre grades, no APs and decent, but not great test scores (3.3 and 30 ACT) He’s into 8/10 schools and waiting to hear from 2 more. He wanted big state flagship type schools so that’s where he applied. I really do feel for these super achievers, all of whom I know will end up in great places but it’s hard getting rejections when you’ve worked so hard. |

Not stressed which is a welcome change from the last two years. In ED so had the relative luxury of calm few months to enjoy what has been a relatively normal senior year.
This was a kid who had a really, really, really tough time during the early days of COVID lockdown mentally and continued to struggle going into 2021. Through a ton of work with a therapist and other support people, I feel pretty comfortable saying we are all on the other side of this. Hug your kids. This process can be tough. So many feel so much pressure on so many different fronts. |
Sounds like mine. They are probably classmates. I posted earlier. High stats magnet, nmsf, 5s on aps, national awards, all state orchestra, professional theatre, sports captain, club pres. So disappointing that they weren't even deferred! Mine is getting some good feedback from some rd schools, albeit 2 safeties, but another is a top tier LAC (based on arts supplement).Trying to get mine excited about the honors houses and safeties. Hoping we all get better news in rd. |
That is great news for your kid. Congrats! Thanks for the encouragement for ours. |
I posted something along these lines on another thread snd got some negative feedback, I’m not sure my point was understood. It’s such a crapshoot that the kids with amazing stats end up needing to seriously consider and maybe attend schools they could have gotten into with much more middling stats. These are generally perfectly good schools. This calls into question the whole achievement culture. Why take 12 APs if the benefit in the admissions process is so hard to gauge? I’m really just offering this as food for thought. I have a sophomore so I’m just learning, but the system seems really unfortunate and creates so much unnecessary stress. |
| The rejection from UMD stung. It was my DD’s first choice. Now we are in a stressful and hopeless stage deciding on next steps. |
