And the DC Costco has booze -- the hard stuff! Love how VA thinks its a Dont Tread On Me state and you have to go to a state owned liquor store like you're in the USSR |
You have that exactly opposite. Everyone I know avoids DC like the plague. NP |
Umm life ling DC resident and you are wrong. Wondering everyday if I should move to Virginia. Less crime, more freedom, and most significantly for me less taxes. Op, congratulations on a profitable weekend, that's great! |
DC resident here. And do you just love how all of the mandates have killed retail, businesses, and restaurants and bars? Ugh you are part of the reason I want to move. I'm a multi generation Washingtonian, I shouldn't have to move but alas might be the only way. |

Op -I hope this won’t be a ‘careful what you wish for’ thread
Take care ~ |
| Agree re DC wholeheartedly. Went to the Palm in Tysons last week vs heading downtown. Also, Wegman’s in McLean is easy parking and close in. Well worth the 15 min drive. |
So wanting to spend less money makes one a snowflake? Fascinating! Tell me more! Does not wanting to be carjacked also make one a snowflake? Have I been doing it all wrong all these years? Because I’ve been looking for bargains wherever I kuldip find them and avoiding places where I might get a gun stuck in my face. Tell us how you’ve become a success by wasting money and/or getting shot! Share your secrets!!!!!! Please!!!!! |
+1 I will wait here til next week when OP says things are a disaster because 60% of his staff is out with COVID. |
Then you live in a bubble. |
| Taxes are not actually lower in VA when you factor in the car fees and other costs that aren't "taxes" |
They are instacart shoppers, ya fool. |

We live in the Georgetown area and some retail stuff in NoVA is just closer to us, rather than driving into NE DC. I get my car washed in NoVA. We go to a few of the German bakeries. Home Depot in NoVA is closer than the Home Depot in MD or DC.
It has nothing to do with masks and everything to do with convenience. |
Yup. Aggregate tax burden is lower in DC if your HHI is around $400K and under for a married couple. Once you're over $500K or so, NoVA becomes cheaper due to the lower income tax rate. The property taxes are significantly higher in NoVA than DC. Lots of special property tax add-ons in NoVA for utilities, infrastructure, etc that can vary significantly by neighborhood. Once it's all added up, DC has less of an aggregate tax burdens for the vast majority of families. |
I’m confused - I thought libs want to pay more in taxes? That’s why they always say taxes on the rich should be much higher.
So it sounds like Virginia is taking the right path. Why aren’t more rich libs moving to VA so they can pay higher taxes? |
