If you spend 20K+ a year on clothing for yourself...

Nordstrom has the best customer service and benefits IMO. You can have a personal shopper who can shop the whole store for you or you have have people in each department. I tend to do the latter as I don't spend as much but have used the pesonal shopping service once or twice.

After that I'd probably say Bloomies but honestly Nordstrom just takes care of you in a way that most places don't anymore.

BUT, I fully support your right to spend your money however you want and to post in a message board about fashion with questions that are relevant to you. To you bitter losers that think it’s any if your business how much money OP has…and how they spend it…your arrogance is truly frightening. Crawl back into your hole. Or, better yet…let me know when you’re donating all your possessions to charity and modeling your life like Mother Theresa’s. You’re a bunch of bitter hypocrites.

Nope. That kind of wastefulness is gross.

It is sad that people like you can only imagine this kind of reaction as coming from a place of bitterness rather than a completely different take on what is worthwhile in this world, a different sense of responsibility etc. How sad you are.

Hon, I share your perspective on the spending…like I already said. What you seem to be missing is that your opinion is no more or less valid than OP’s. It’s truly none of your business. What’s sad is that you have such a conflated sense of your own opinion and self-worth.

FWIW I buy at J Crew and J Jill and they have rewards programs- might get free shipping or a feee scarf! Lol

Not OP, but this past year I bought a BEAUTIFUL Burberry coat that was $4k and a Christian Dior full length Mink vest for $11K. Where do I where them? The Burberry coat when I go out to a nice lunch - it is WARM! The mink rarely, but it's a statement piece. I wore it to the Kennedy Center for the Leslie Odom concert and people stopped me the piece is so stunning.

I also have several other bombers and reasonably priced coats. I have a lot of coats.

I love it! Coats are my favorite.

Question: Do you just randomly buy what you like, or do you shop every season with an idea of what you want? I hesitate to spend even 3K on a coat (I've been wanting the Max Mara Manuela forever...) even though I don't hesitate to buy four or five $700 dresses I don't really need and it's kind of ridiculous. I wish I could approach my shopping more strategically.

I'm the same. I've never spent more than $120 on a pair of shoes. I'm not "a poor". I'm also not fashionable and not thin. This means I do not enjoy shopping and just hope to find something that isn't hideous.

Then obviously neither of you have much to offer OP with your random responses??

Ugh, I messed up with this thread. Sorry. I shouldn't have made the focus on the number.

My question was just whether it was worth consolidating my shopping to a single store for benefits that aren't a discount (ie, concierge services), and whether any one had done that at higher end stores (Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, Saks, etc).

Spending $$ on clothes is definitely my guilty pleasure but I know there are plenty of women around here who spend more than I do (though, perhaps they don't realize it if they've never added it up!) and I thought someone might have some thoughts on this.

OP - Honestly, I think you are in such a rarified atmosphere, very few people will useful advice.

You don’t need to explain yourself to anyone.

Different people have their ego tied to different things. Some people it’s cars, some it’s their kitchen appliances/gadgets, some it’s their clothes. One PP’s ego gets stroked when someone notices her mink. Others love to know they are carrying an expensive or very trendy bag. OP’s ego is tied to her clothes and perhaps the concierge shopping experience itself. Whatever. Some egos are more expensive to satisfy than others.

Very little and that will not change. I spend my money on ME and an unapologetic about that.

Yikes.

Nobody is obligated to give to charity especially when very little of that money goes to the causem

1) It was a serious question about how much OP donates to charity each year. It did not state that she was "obligated" to do so. Your defensiveness is on you. Anyway, she answered zero.
2) But to respond to a point that you made: t is a gross misstatement that "so little of that money goes to the cause" [sic]. You can tell yourself that to justify your choices, but the truth is that it depends on the organization. Anyone can use Charity Navigator or perform other due diligence to get this information.

Enjoy your new clothes.

NP. Let’s not okay stupid, PP. This isn’t the money and finance forum. You asked this question to make a point, and I’m glad OP answered you unapologetically. How much OP may or may not donate to charity is none of your business, and is unrelated to the question OP asked.

Yep. One maxmara coat + chanel purse and most of the budget is gone.

Honestly I'd rather have the 20k in clothes a year than drive a G wagon.

Sadly, every year I say I am not going to buy a new coat. EVERY YEAR! And then, I buy a new coat. But I truly love them. I mean LOVE. This year I realized I had a coat for every occasion. I went to a large funeral and had the perfect coat for a funeral! Do I need different coats for every occasion? Of course not, but I do love them.

So that’s where your ego lives. Someone else’s wants the G wagon. It’s all ego.

My ego isn't stroked because it's a mink, it's that it's such a beautiful coat! I like clothes that are different that other people don't have.

Thank you- I was the PP that was genuinely asking. That mink vest sounds divine and I would likely wear it even when I WFH
