If you spend 20K+ a year on clothing for yourself...

You and so many others on this thread are so judgmental and close-minded. Why are you even in this forum? You have no idea what anyone besides yourself and maybe your kids needs. It's OP's money and absolutely none of your business what she spends it on. I'm sure people would go through your expenses and judge you, too. I could easily afford to spend $100k a year on clothes (I don't spend anywhere near that), but if I did and it makes me happy, why is it any of your business? It's also in perspective. I don't think $20k for someone who makes or has a lot of money is outrageous, but we have plenty of money. It's like me thinking someone who flies private is frivolously spending, because first class is amazing - while the person who flies private thinks the one who owns their own jet is wasteful. We all have different perspectives, and that's fine. What's ridiculous is you thinking everyone else needs to live by your value system.

Let me say it again, since it's not penetrating past your earwax: No one needs 20K worth of clothing. It's disgusting. It's consumption for the sake of consumption.

That’s just your opinion, isn’t it? You can shout it all you want but people will spend their money as they please, not in fear of your judgement.

Is this how you make yourself feel okay about your excesses? Because someone is spending more than you, so it’s okay for you to use up that many resources, and annually? “We all have different perspectives, and that’s fine,” is weak and it’s the kind of crap pop psychology that has allowed antivax nonsense to spread covid far and wide, the kind of dingleberry nonsense that says overthrowing the government is a-okay, because the GOP just had a “different perspective” about who won the election? No.

So you spend between $20,000 and $100,000 on clothing a year probably travel quite a bit too, since that jumped up as your next reason why your excesses aren’t excessive. Honestly, I’m not sure how some of you live with yourselves knowing that a billion people live on less than the equivalent of a dollar a day around the world. That the amount of plastics in the environment exceeds the total mass of all mammals on the earth. That girls are still sold into marriage because their parents can’t afford school. That children right here in the US don’t have safe drinking water or safe housing. I give my relative paltry hundreds to charity because it’s the right thing to do. But you’re defending just absolutely appalling excess because others spend more? No wonder the earth is dying.

Ultimately, judgment comes for us all. I’ll meet my end someday, peaceful that I tried to live in harmony with the world.

Can someone start a new thread for those who can look up their end of year credit card summary-how much do you spend on department stores? Optionally add your hhi or charitable donations. I feel this thread got hijacked unfairly and it is hard to find answers to the original questions.

I think a PP had it right: the trick is to forge a relationship with a SA. Sometimes this is a brand thing (Hermès); sometimes this is a store thing (say, the lead SA at NM who handles the higher-end clothing designers).

OP, I can’t answer this question specifically due to not knowing your parameters. Are there brands you love, or is it more the whole aesthetic being pushed by a store? Is that $20k going to clothes, or shoes, or what? Once you know what you’re targeting, then you can consolidate.

$20k won’t get you far with Hermès or Chanel — it might get you on the list for a Kelly, though.

+1. When the supply chain totally breaks down, I'm heeding the "eat the rich" advice.

I suggest eating the jealous, eating the mean, you know, people like you.

Remember that time Michelle Obama wore those glittery over the knee boots that cost like 10k? (Or was it 7k)? You all were like wow so beautiful, OP’s clothing budget is like nothing compared to Michelle Obama’s budget, none of you judged Michelle or called her wasteful or disgusting.

Stop judging OP, let a woman spend her money however she please.

And others will meet the same judgement, only attired in Gucci and Prada.

This is so much crap it’s hard to read. My teen has better reading comprehension than you! Nowhere did I say that I dined between 20-100k - all I said is I spend nowhere near 100k, and I provided travel as an example but didn’t mention if or how I travel. Your own examples are so off-base and non-sensical that they do not deserve a reasoned response. In fact, your entire sanctimonious post based on a completely made up scenario doesn’t merit a response. You truly don’t sound very intelligent.

Let me say it again, it is absolutely none of your business how much OP or anyone else spends on clothing. Your inability to understand that your opinions do not dictate how others live probably translates to a job that does not allow you to afford the things that OP can.

Ok now that was a good response.

Um, OP began this conversation with a post stating that she spends $20k+ per year on clothing...

I am still floored by the $1700 pajama PP. I will admit I am so envious. How is it fair for a few to live this lavish lifestyle while so many live in poverty?

Would feel better if she spent $1000 a year on clothes and put the rest in her brokerage account?
