If you spend 20K+ a year on clothing for yourself...

My ego isn't stroked because it's a mink, it's that it's such a beautiful coat! I like clothes that are different that other people don't have.

Agree. It’s not because it’s mink. I only used that to refer to the piece. It’s because, as you noted, you are noticed and now you add because you feel you are envied because you have what others don’t. Ego.

No one owes a charity donation. You spend your money how you want and let others do the same.

I'm sorry, but, having worked for a number of non-profits, most are just entities designed to keep their employees employed. Give your housekeeper a big bonus instead. Total waste of money in many cases.

Where did the PP specify non-profits? There are many ways to be charitable. And clearly you are not "sorry".

20k *a year* on clothes is excessive and gross. Just is. Don't try to justify it. It's ghastly. That was really the first PPs point and it is well taken.

No one *deserves* to have so much money that they spend $20k on clothes *every year* when so many people in this world have so little.

I can’t believe people actually think this way.

Please share your HHI, expenses and how much you give to charity every year so we can judge your choices for how you live your life.

What? You can't believe that most people would find spending $20k A YEAR on clothes for themselves garish and repellant?

Get a grip. It's awful on so many levels! Greedy, wasteful, awful for the environment...

No one cares what you think, least of all the rich.

$20k is not a lot if you’re buying certain brands and high-quality pieces. Everyone on this forum purports to have a high six or even seven-figure income. Why are people running for the smelling salts over this?

I don't want people to envy me. I'm not interested in that. I just want to look my best. Why does anyone decide that they want to be stylish? I do it mostly for myself. It's nice when others notice, but it doesn't drive me. And you know what, it is ego. That's also why I eat well and take care of myself.

They all seem to want to look like hags.

I'm the same. I've never spent more than $120 on a pair of shoes. I'm not "a poor". I'm also not fashionable and not thin. This means I do not enjoy shopping and just hope to find something that isn't hideous.

Then obviously neither of you have much to offer OP with your random responses??

Gross. Keep being wasteful and ridiculous.

Marie Antoinette keep it up. Despite your claim to having $$, I'd bet in reality you don't.

FWIW I buy at J Crew and J Jill and they have rewards programs- might get free shipping or a feee scarf! Lol

I shop at J Crew and I have a a classic Burberry trench and a wool overcoat from Mackage - together they were $3k, but I add a new coat every 3-5 years.

Agree. Higher end brands it would be gone in no time. Just run of the mill Nordstrom or the like at full price, many people would hit the mark without acknowledging it, if they are dedicated shoppers. $1000 a month plus some splurges it's $20K easy. Not me, but I'm not scandalized, either. Most people don't budget or total this spending.

Mmmm hmmm.

Your ego is tied to your clothes, your style, your looks. It’s what makes you feel good. It’s what you value in yourself.

Guilty as charged. I also love and adore my husband, kids and dog. I give lots to charity and I care deeply about our country's democracy. I want to look good while doing these things. My husband does love that I care about taking care of myself. I hold him to the same standard. There you have it.

It's actually multiple PPs. Many people find this all shallow and gauche. Not enviable. I know it's hard for the shallow to comprehend.

It seems to be equally difficult for you to comprehend that none of those people give a rats behind about your opinions of how they should spend their money.
