Maybe she realized being the 'caregiver' for 10-year-old and two 12-year-olds would be easier than being the full-time SAHM to 6 babies-to-toddlers.

Honestly she had a pretty sweet set-up
with Jim Bob/Michelle's 10,000 square foot house to herself most of the day. Probably had her own room for the first time in her life. She just didn't count on Josh f**king that up with going to prison for 20 years and dumping his clutch of 7 on her.

That's a sweet set-up? She's a 30+ year old woman who is still "waiting" for her first kiss, still has to do whatever her parents tell her, but might have her own bedroom by now? Sounds more like a nightmare. Maybe Jana thinks that by delaying marriage for all these years, she can avoid having double-digit numbers of children.

That's my theory about Jana. (Actually, the theory of a bunch of people on Reddit, but I think it makes sense.) The theory is that the only real way for her to leave the nest is to get married. And in her world, getting married means what is essentially an arranged marriage followed by birthing a litter of children and spending the next decade or two with sleepless nights, endless diapers, no identity, the list goes on. She's done that sh*t for the vast majority of her life for her parents' children. Why would she want to do it again? Obviously life at Jichelle's isn't great, but eh, she has the "freedom" to pretty much do a lot of what she pleases. At least, she has way more freedom than her married-with-children sisters do- she has hobbies, gets coffee, etc. and no real responsibilities, much less being responsible for a little of real human children. (And having to be "joyfully available" for some mediocre guy). I think she's probably a little too brainwashed to articulate it in this way, but I'd say staying single and at her parents house is a pretty savvy move on her part. She has it as good as it'll ever get for a woman in this cult, IMO.

It's so easy for us to say "just leave" but when you're so deep in it, it's hard to know what resources exist, let alone how to access them, let alone the enormous religious/cult pressure she's been brain-washed in.

She has no education, probably no money of her own.. not that easy to leave beyond marrying.

Oh bull. I'm so tired of people excusing Jana and Anna.

I'm sure Jill, Jinger, and probably other married family members offered to let her live with them. She's a grown woman and can leave, and has immense privilege (media connections, social media presence). These grown ass women are not victims.

Or maybe the way that Jim Bob and Michelle have chosen to raise their children lends itself to the children having various problems including as adults. Jana has been mothering little kids since she was eight years old. Who wouldn’t be burnt out? There are lots of studies about the negative effects of turning children into mothers.

Or her punishment is she can’t be alone with kids, which makes her nearly useless to her parents.

Honestly she'll just get probation probably. First offense. Wasn't deliberate. But it might scare her enough to get out of the Duggar household - especially with Josh's conviction and the all-but certainty Anna's relocation to the compound is permanent.

I don’t know if anything will get Jana to abandon the compound, but there is no question that she will be conscripted to babysit for the next decade or so.

I would never hire any of those girls as my nanny. The parenting model they grew up with would be unacceptable to me, and they have no sense of normalcy around parenting or early child development.

No one in NYC wants a blanket trainer without a college degree.

this, although seeing Jana trying to navigate NYC after spending 31 years in on a compound in rural Arkansas might be kind of...amusing.

My only thought is that Jana is choosing to stay at home to protect the little kids from Jim Bob or at least be a safe refuge.

I truly think he’s a bad, bad man.

+1. was her mother a fun of hitting infants with a towel as an educational methods? these kids are disturbed at various level, not easy to jyst pick up and leave. her hope is that her parents die sooner than later and maybe she can funally have a life.

I heard Michelle was also home, so why was Jana the only one charged?

I’ve heard this theory and think it’s spot on
