I wonder if that's why her rumored courtship seemed to come to a halt?
Maybe she realized being the 'caregiver' for 10-year-old and two 12-year-olds would be easier than being the full-time SAHM to 6 babies-to-toddlers. Honestly she had a pretty sweet set-up with Jim Bob/Michelle's 10,000 square foot house to herself most of the day. Probably had her own room for the first time in her life. She just didn't count on Josh f**king that up with going to prison for 20 years and dumping his clutch of 7 on her.
That's a sweet set-up? She's a 30+ year old woman who is still "waiting" for her first kiss, still has to do whatever her parents tell her, but might have her own bedroom by now? Sounds more like a nightmare. Maybe Jana thinks that by delaying marriage for all these years, she can avoid having double-digit numbers of children.
That's my theory about Jana. (Actually, the theory of a bunch of people on Reddit, but I think it makes sense.) The theory is that the only real way for her to leave the nest is to get married. And in her world, getting married means what is essentially an arranged marriage followed by birthing a litter of children and spending the next decade or two with sleepless nights, endless diapers, no identity, the list goes on. She's done that sh*t for the vast majority of her life for her parents' children. Why would she want to do it again? Obviously life at Jichelle's isn't great, but eh, she has the "freedom" to pretty much do a lot of what she pleases. At least, she has way more freedom than her married-with-children sisters do- she has hobbies, gets coffee, etc. and no real responsibilities, much less being responsible for a little of real human children. (And having to be "joyfully available" for some mediocre guy). I think she's probably a little too brainwashed to articulate it in this way, but I'd say staying single and at her parents house is a pretty savvy move on her part. She has it as good as it'll ever get for a woman in this cult, IMO.
