Appears from the PP, related to this basketball thread, Wilson has a number of rapscallions who disrupt the local residents. |

It was insane. They keyed cars, they shattered a windshield. They were screaming "the n word" at the other head-of-school (who is white) and the other team's coaches. I was embarrassed to be associated with Wilson. I have never seen this before. It was a mixed crowd of Wilson kids (black, white, etc). They behaved abhorrently. The tournament (which was being played to honor an African American coach who recently died from Covid) was cancelled. One option considered was to play the remaining games without Wilson but it was a small tournament and this wouldn't have worked with the brackets. —this from a Wilson parent from a discussion on the dc public school forum. |
I don’t understand how you all think it is fair for STA students to scream, yell, use explicit language etc., and when Wilson students cheer on their team it is a problem. |
They were not using explicit language. |
| Is anyone surprised? How many videos are posted of adults behaving badly at professional sporting events? Fan behavior has been out of control for a long time. Teams really should start banning unruly fans and nip this thing in the bud once and for all. |
Seriously. There’s a thread on the soccer forum here on DCUM about a parent asking for advice for how her teen kid who refs can respond to unruly parents. |
Covid has done a number on so many people. Mental health is in shambles. Maybe being out of school for 2 years has messed kids up. |
WIS was the worst I’ve heard on a high school sideline. I was up top of the field after school. |
Screaming and being rude may be unacceptable and I don’t condone that if that happened but it is not illegal but stealing phones and sweatshirts, vandalizing a bus, breaking a bus windshield, and keying cars is ILLEGAL. You are not reading the thread. Wilson parents saw these things as well. |
+1 the irrational defensiveness of Wilson parents is astounding. |
This is it. I went to a number of soccer and football games this fall between STA, Gonzaga, SJC, Sidwell, etc. At each, there was back-and-forth taunting between the teams' fans. It can get pretty loud and crazy and the taunts go back-and-forth. However, never did any of these games spiral into violence or destruction or even profanity. That is what made these Wilson students different. They got taunted and then they got destructive and started destroying and stealing things. I was recently at a SJC vs. Gonzaga football game. The taunting was significant but everyone remained under control. They didn't key cars or break windshields or call the other team the "n word". |
| Sad for the basketball players on each side who worked so hard to play great. But has anyone else seen the fighting that takes place near the Tenleytown Metro many afternoons? It’s scary and I’m glad my kids don’t go there, and whether the Wilson kids initiated this or not at the tournament in my head their reputation precedes them unfortunately… |
This. Anyone defending Wilson students is pathetic. They are a menace on the metro (assaults and theft) and in Tenleytown regularly. The false equivalence being made to anything STA boys have done is ridiculous. Any private school that invites Wilson teams/students to a game or participates at anything at Wilson is out of their minds. |
And Others feel the same way about STA and other private schools. Wilson fans may have been out of hand at this game, but STA boys and fans are FAR FAR from angels when it comes to sportsmanship. |
Yes. I was present, we’re you? That’s what I thought. |
