STA vs Wilson Game: Fighting and Drinking

Anonymous
By all accounts, the behavior by Wilson fans was extreme. At halftime, they moved into the STA student section and ransacked backpacks. They later posted videos of themselves in ski masks with stolen STA clothing and other items. The STA boys were not allowed back in the gym until the Wilson students returned to their section. The STA boys did yell some obnoxious “cheers” that I think many parents shut down. After the game, some Wilson students vandalized an STA bus parked near the gym (broke the windshield, etc.), and keyed some cars. Observers were incredulous that neither the Wilson coach nor the DC police seemed to do anything. In hindsight, STA administration should have shut things down at halftime. It is terrible that STA cancelled the rest of the tournament (presumably because Wilson was not welcome back) that was honoring a former coach, but it was probably the right call.

Sounds embarrassing and unacceptable . For the record though, STA players and coach behaved absolutely terribly at a game I attended last spring (profanity, poor sportsmanship, taunts).

Oh my. Not profanity. That’s much worse than theft and vandalism.

What would you have the Wilson Coach do to fans displaying poor behavior while or after he’s coaching a game? It’s been said more than once the players had nothing to do with this, why are you putting blame on the coach?

That’s a little beyond bad language.

Also bad form to suggest ALL the Wilson kids stole phones.

Why cancel the tourney? Just don't have Wilson attend.

Huh? No one is suggesting this. You're being obtuse just to be difficult.

And none of the STA were out of control? Is that what you’re saying?

LOL right? That was my first reaction. Of course they were *total angels* because the subtext of this terrible thread is that white/rich kids from a private school can do no wrong and public school kids are out of control (btw my kid is at a Big 3). OP go get some sensitivity training.

Please spare us your woke nonsense. STA students, while often perpetrators of entitled d-baggery, do not smoke dope and drink beer and yell obscenities at authority figures and start fights IN opponents’ gyms.

But that didn’t happen… were you there? Do you know what actually happened? The OP just made it look like Wilson kids were acting crazy with no provocation.

This is exactly what happened. Trying to say it did not? Just brush it under the rug and it never happened. Sorry, Wilson booster, you've got issues at your school.

It was obviously all pretty wild and spilled out onto the street.
I think people in general are under a lot of stress.
Just think about all the violent incidents on airplanes recently.
This is not an excuse more an observation.
Rioting, looting, crime. Things are feeling quite frayed

No, it shouldn't. It should be all students, open to the public, now that the Covid threat has diminished. We lost last year of basketball and we should not have to lose this one too - which we may now, with behavior like this.

Shocking but not at all surprising.

I don’t understand why the tournament was canceled. Can’t they exclude Wilson from the tournament? Or let the team play but no fans or limited fans such as parents and families

I feel sorry for the Wilson players!

Wilson’s Athletic Director was there. He should be identifying trouble makers and dishing out punishments. STA staff should be doing the same.
This isn’t the first time these schools have met. There are very close and it’s kind of a rivalry game.
