Annapolis Navy family tried to pass nuclear sub secrets to a foreign govt

Besides the US Navy, there’s the Royal Navy, the Russians, the French, the PLAN, the Indians, the RAN, and both Brazil and I think the DPRK navies are developing nuclear sub classes. The Indian Navy has a long standing strong relationship with the Russians so they could buy top shelf items from them if they wanted. If the other country doesn’t have SSNs already maybe it’s the Pakistanis? Egyptians? Both are intent on expanding naval capability. Will be interesting to find out.

One theory I saw was that it’s France, they cooperated with the investigation, and that’s why they were so pissed off about the Australian deal.

But why send it to France in the first place? Seems more likely to be a country that’s not someone we would think of as a close ally but that’s close enough to turn him over to us.

That country didn't turn him over. The idiot sent the package to an undercover U.S. FBI agent by mistake. Presumably someone with embassy connections or connected to it in some way.

That is not how I read this story - from the Post:

The court papers say that in December 2020, an FBI official received a package that had been sent to the foreign country containing U.S. Navy documents, a letter and instructions for how to conduct encrypted communications with the person offering the information.

To me, that reads as the FBI was alerted by someone from the foreign country, not that the FBI initially intercepted the package. Russia would not turn this over to the FBI, but France, as an ally, would.

NYT is explicitly reporting that the foreign country found it in their postal service and turned it over to an FBI legal attaché in the country.

except wife's twitter feed indicates she was a neverTrumper. Hated the "Muslim ban." retweeted HRC's #notmypresident. She was not active on twitter, though. But, definitely not a Trumper. PhD in Anthropology from Emory.

Trumpers don’t hate America, this has to been a super woke couple. One of those that believe that American is a bad country.

Don't think they mention electronic. The guy was standing out on the street facing the embassy and waiting for his signal as 'proof' that he was in contact with foreign agents.

It was more like a flag waved from the roof or light flashed in a obvious manner. He just wanted to see physical proof from the embassy itself.

It's been suggested the country is South Korea, and they do have a main embassy building with an annex in Arlington. And they'd have an incentive to wait until after the election considering Trump's kissing up to Kim Jong-un. Plus that would be a country an anti-Trump person would be motivated to help.

That us bs because we don’t know when the Fbi got the package, 4/1/2020, the criminal complaint doesn’t stated it. They just said when was received for the country 1 and when the FBI analyzed 12/23/2020. They don’t said when the package was given to the fbi

He asked for $5 million. He was too lazy to work honestly for it.

IMO they should be but we let seditionists serve only a month in jail these days. My heart goes out to their children. I'm so sorry their parents have done this to them. I can't begin to figure out what the other country is. If it's a non ally it suggests to me they already have the information he was peddling.
