Annapolis Navy family tried to pass nuclear sub secrets to a foreign govt

There’s a big gap in the husband’s education history. He goes back for a 2nd masters degree in nuclear engineering ten years after getting his first masters.

It would not surprise me if this was ideology driven and he planned to do this from the very beginning. Delusions of grandeur.

$100K is not that much money to throw your child’s life away.

This didn't age well. Thanks for the laugh.

Someone on Reddit is saying they had a sick/dying child. For the wife to get involved somehow that is more credible. Otherwise, taking that risk for $100k?

They wanted a total of $5 million for all the data - $100k per packet for 50 packets.

How did the whole “sick/dying kid” thing appear? Somebody mentioned upthread here that the kid was just gender transitioning per the mom’s Facebook.

One theory I saw was that it’s France, they cooperated with the investigation, and that’s why they were so pissed off about the Australian deal.

France is an ally. I believe this idiot was stupid enough to hand it off to Russians, or try to, like that girl who stole Nancy Pelosi's laptop during the Jan. 6th riots.

The court papers say that in December 2020, an FBI official received a package that had been sent to the foreign country containing U.S. Navy documents, a letter and instructions for how to conduct encrypted communications with the person offering the information.

The letter in the package said: “I apologize for this poor translation into your language. Please forward this letter to your military intelligence agency. I believe this information will be of great value to your nation. This is not a hoax.”

It’s not Russia or China. The foreign country handed the package over to an FBI legal attaché in that country, which neither China nor Russia would do. The FBI also got assistance from the country’s embassy here, which neither Russia nor China would do.

Maybe Texas or Florida?

Fascinating. Probably Israel.

Which is dumb to do. Israel always turns over these people to the U.S. Israel isn't going to jeopardize their relationship with the U.S. over a guy like this.

When he asked for a signal in the embassy (or other building of that country) that is easily visible from the street, they replied to him “The signal will be inside our main building”.
Which embassies/consulates have “inside of the main building” easily visible from the street?

A lot of people start PhD programs and then leave and come back to them and finish them at a snails pace. Realistically to be a teacher even at a fancy private school she didn't need one, life happened and she finished it when she could.

His wife was posting anti Trump rants and pro BLM content on Facebook.

Yup, it's all coming out now. Just on the news.

Oh, now Republicans are going to start caring about treason again? Is this going to be a regular cycle, like how the debt doesn’t matter when Republicans are incurring it, but it matters that Democrats have to pay off Republican debt before fixing problems?
