This married couple really sealed their fate with these emails. EVERYTHING is spelled out. Dude even highlighted relevant sections for the foreign spy as if they wouldn't have their own tech experts to verify the usefulness of the materials.

It’s not Russia or China. The foreign country handed the package over to an FBI legal attaché in that country, which neither China nor Russia would do. The FBI also got assistance from the country’s embassy here, which neither Russia nor China would do.

Okay, so maybe a country that is 'lower' tier on the global scale but feels like I could get more from cooperating from the U.S. than in screwing it over? Korea? Maybe France could be right. But the traitor asked for the country to be prepared to get him and his wife out of the country in case they were discovered which would at least indicate there's no extradition let alone a ally that is super-interwoven with the U.S. in a NATO alliance.

An extradition treaty doesn’t mean the other country could be forced to extradite him, although it would be a big breach of foreign relations in this case. This guy made some pretty dumb mistakes in this whole affair, though, so I don’t know that he was thinking too hard about extradition treaties.

But why send it to France in the first place? Seems more likely to be a country that’s not someone we would think of as a close ally but that’s close enough to turn him over to us.

That country didn't turn him over. The idiot sent the package to an undercover U.S. FBI agent by mistake. Presumably someone with embassy connections or connected to it in some way.

That is not how I read this story - from the Post:

To me, that reads as the FBI was alerted by someone from the foreign country, not that the FBI initially intercepted the package. Russia would not turn this over to the FBI, but France, as an ally, would.

I feel horrible for their two kids, the eldest who is 13-14 and the youngest is a pre-teen. They are all over the mother’s social media, including the eldest child’s gender transition. These kids are about to go through one of the toughest phases of life without their parents and under a spotlight of the nation media.

I guarantee there is so much more to this story. What in the world were the parents thinking leaving their kids to the wolves? I wonder if the parents are narcissists who believed they never would be caught.
