It’s been out. Her FB is still public and it’s really tame. |
| I'm surprised by the people saying it can't be Russia or China. I can easily see one of those countries getting this stuff, realizing they are dealing with some yahoos that don't know much and certainly don't have good "spy skills", and figuring it would be better politically/diplomatically to turn them over than to get more info from them. |
Could even be Iran. The wife did her PhD in anthropology on a group of people in Iran. She spent years researching that. Maybe it isn't Iran... who knows. But, it is one country where she is very familiar with the people. Of course, it seems like the husband was the leader in this wanna-be-James-Bond fantasy. Just so pitiful that someone is so desperate that they would throw their life and their kids lives in the gutter. |
I wondered about that, as well. But, 1) Does Iran have an embassy here? Don't think so. 2) I cannot really see Iran turning information over to feds. |
Reports said that it is most likely a country with nuclear sub technology already. This eliminates Iran. |
+1 Many people work their way through college or don’t attend it until later in life. Only on DCUM is this considered “weird.” |

I think the country is probably Australia. A news article mentioned that the wife was interested in moving to Australia and had looked for jobs there.
Australia already has a number of Australian agents within the FBI working on a sting where they soldbsuspects (drug dealers, I think but can’t remember) special mobile phones that had spyware. It was very successful. I think that meant that when the offer was received, Australia would have already had a trusted relationship with the FBI to turn over the material and cooperate in a sting. Plus, this would explain the recent Australian nuclear sub technology deal which screwed over the French-Australia sub deal. Basically, when the Australians got the nuclear sub info from the would be spy, they were in the position of saying to the US - we could have kept this and gotten all this nuclear capability from a spy or you can give it to us and announce an alliance out of it. The French will be mad initially but once they realize the US and Australia were really forced into the deal unexpectedly by the spy, it won’t seem like such a knife in the back to the French. Also, the Australian Embassy has a main site on Dupont circle which is under construction and another office location on 17th. The US probs also has an extradition treaty with Australia, thus the third country evacuation reference. That’s my theory. |
Solid theory, but I think this quote rules it out. The court papers say that in December 2020, an FBI official received a package that had been sent to the foreign country containing U.S. Navy documents, a letter and instructions for how to conduct encrypted communications with the person offering the information. The letter in the package said: “I apologize for this poor translation into your language. Please forward this letter to your military intelligence agency. I believe this information will be of great value to your nation. This is not a hoax.” |
|
At some point Toebbe wrote to his contact apologizing for his poor translation into their language.
Based on that most have ruled out Australia. French or Spanish would be the most likely language for his translation efforts (or perhaps his wife's), leading some to suspect France or Argentina, with Brazil as a distant third because translating to Portuguese would be more of a stretch. |
Oh, but if it were France and they turned him over, that would explain why they were so pissed about the Australian nuke deal. France has a main embassy on Reservoir and a well known residence in Kalorama plus a consulate/visa processing place downtown. |
I'm thinking they just used Google translate. |
| God what losers. |
Not a bad thought. Still rules out Australia, though. |
Typing spy messages into Google? Now that’s dumb. |
It's all coming out?!? Wow, this is big! MAGA! What About Mah Freeedoooom????? #AfwaidOfNeedles |
