Actually the only people with entitlement problems are the Ward 4 folks who think that they are entitled to a citywide charter in their backyard. A "Ward 4" school? Amazing. |

LAMB is obviously a city-wide charter. It has a good academic track record and has never had to work very hard to fill its seats.
Back when they started 15 years ago, no charters were providing help with transportation - free or paid by parents. But the world has changed -- and every time a charter school moves or opens a new location the DCPCSB asks the operator about whether they will provide or help facilitate transportation for families who may have a hard time with the new commute. That isn't how it was when Diane started but it's standard today. So - if this progresses to the point that there is a deal to take to the PCSB, write to them, testify and say why the move is hard adn how you need them to help out with transit. The PCSB can nudge /push them to do it if parents go on the record with the request both to the school and the Board. |
But they opened a campus in Ward 5 and accepted families from wards 6-7-8. These people add to the diversity of the school. Our children are entitled to continue their education at lamb and lamb has a responsibility towards them. I understand there is tremendous hostility towards this group of parents, but I don't understand why. They're not focused on killing the dream of a unified school, they just want to be able to send their kids there without uprooting everyone. |
Different poster but I agree with this. And I will be happy to testify to the PSCB as suggested by the other PP. I understand that there is a big group of committed parents who are planning on doing this too. This affects wards 5 6 7 8. |
There were families from wards 6-7-8 enrolled at back when Missouri Ave was the only campus too. |
And there was no help with transit. Then the building on Missouri Avenue was moved to Our Redeemer church (basically in Mt Rainier) for 2 years, and no one got help with transit. Then we all went back to Missouri Avenue. For a while until we had to move back to Ward 5 while they did more construction. Through all these moves, there were families from every single ward at LAMB. What has changed are family expectations -- and there is more competition now. But from Diane and Barrie Lynn's perspective, families figured it out before, and they assume they will figure it out this time too. |
A ward 4 school means a school located in Ward 4. Families from all over the city came to the Missouri avenue location. Everyone was welcome. "Amazing" is you trying to twist that into anything else. |
WTF are you talkning about? Families from every ward were always accepted, even before the temporary SD ave location. |
Hahaha, LAMB has a responsibility to the children - what a joke! They let a child molester remain at the school for at least 2 years. If that doesn't tell you where their responsibility lies, not sure what will. To say they have a responsibility to provide your child a ride to the school, that's funny. |
But they didn't apply until the commute was feasible. We just want to find a way to make the school work for our families. I recognize that you're a disgusting person and don't care. But it is the right thing to do. |
Not the PP -- you aren't listening. Families from EVERY ward in the city applied to LAMB when it was at Missouri avenue and enrolled at roughly the same ratios as they do now. We had far fewer charter options than you do now, and the luxury of prioritizing schools with short commutes just wasn't a thing. We all knew we had to drive to make it work, there were lots of carpools. |
Any hostility you're experiencing is because if you'd done your research on LAMB before enrolling you'd know this was a possibility for the school. |
| I literally drive past Missouri avenue on the drive to take my child to South Dakota. It never occurred to me to demand a shuttle or anything else. I'm an adult and can make decisions on what is best for my family without whining or expecting someone else to parent for me. |
Just because it is located in Ward 4 now doesn't mean it needs to consolidate there. It's a citywide school. Whether you like it or not. |
If it never occurred to you to ask to be transferred to Missouri you are clearly stupid. |
