I would rather have a homeless shelter there.

I own a gun. I also have kids in the school.

I will bake cookies with the McLean Moms.

You don't live in McLean. McLean moms don't have time to bake cookies.

Vicky isn't the only mom in mclean. Lots of mclean moms make time to bake cookies.

I am pro guns, pro individual rights.

To have guns in this country and be safe, everyone needs common sense. That is how we stay safe with guns.

There is too much violence for kids these days. They have games, movies and news with too much killing. They don't need to see a machine gun being carted off outside their windows from school.

In this case, owner demonstrated lack of common sense.

In your case, there's lack of 20/20 vision.
The children can't see anything. Are you another one in CA?

My neighbor tells me the[b] store is visible from 5th grade classroom windows. Maybe or maybe not the front door but maybe they get shipments in the back and the children can see. Her child is in that 5th grade class.

You must be one of the pro-guns from CA.

Totally absurd. It's not NEXT to the school, it's around the corner from the school, near the 7-11s where the high school kids get cigarettes and wine and across the street and down the street from the ABC store next to the Giant and the gas stations where the kids buy booze and cigarettes. Get it? The cigarettes and booze do far more damage to your kids as do the violent movies and games you let them watch. And the gun shop was located across FROM THE POST OFFICE where all of you and your kiddies went for years. 100 feet across from the Post Office and nary a wisp of controversy. And 60 feet from Wok 'n Roll and less than 120 feet from the medical buildings where you take your kids for tutoring and therapy. Now they enlarge - with a very modest sign - and the libs go crazy just because they can - because they think that to be part of the liberal club they have to be anti-gun. They can't explain why. And they can't take any legal action. But because outside liberals can't think for themselves and have to follow the herd, they scream "no guns". What damage has that business ever been responsible for? Why would your elementary kids even know there is a gun store there unless you tell them? And OMG what might they do? Walk inside? Sure, the the business is going to sell to them. They have to clear all purchases with the ATF and register the owner. That means a license. What elementary school kid is going to walk in there with a fake license and even try? And what responsible gun shop would sell? They would lose their license. However, if your kids want to get guns off the internet while you are not watching them, than that's another story. Crimes are caused by criminals with stolen or black market guns. They don't use registered guns bought at a little McLean shop cleared through the ATF. We use them for shooting clays, target practice, Boy scout riflery merit badges, marksmanship and god forbid, self-protection, if needed. McLean is soundly behind the store, all the way. Virginia is an open carry state. McLean is in VA. If you don't like that, then please move. And if you don't live in McLean, please shut up. We like things the way they are.

+ 1,000,000 - THANK YOU.

You are most welcome. Now everyone just please shut up. The store is staying where it is. There is nothing Foust or the liberal whiners can do about it. The more you post here the more attention you are driiving to the real McLean people to frequent the Auto Store (landlord) and the small gun shop. There is nothing to be gained by continuing this conversation. If you don't like it and live in McLean, move. If you don't like it, go change the relevant law. But stop the hand-wringing. Take some action or shut-up. Petitions do nothing. Bullying the shop out of McLean isn't going to stop McLean people from buying guns. Most purchase thorugh the mail anyhow. It's an open carry state.

I sure don't. Most moms don't even cook because they are professionals and don't have the time. I've never made cookies in McLean. Bought them for bake-sales, yes. Make them from scratch? No. No time.

Hey anti freedom nuts. Where we're you yesterday? After hearing about them here I went to buy some ammo yesterday and didn't see any of you.

It's over.

It's over in the sense that you can now stop posting on this thread while the residents of McLean sort out what's right for their children and community in real life. Good-bye.

In real life the "protesters" went back to New York. The crowd (15 people) that was "never going to drop it" has, well, dropped it.

Think what you like and declare what you like. Saying it's done does not make it so.
Anonymous
Correct. Saying it means nothing. Shoe fit?

If you were really in McLean you'd walk over and see they left. Gone. Back to NY. Not there. Over.

Thanks for Umpqua nutjobs. You built that. Shooter bought all the multiple guns he had on the scene legally. So, he was one of the "good guys with a gun" until he wasn't.

Again, those nine people's deaths, and countless others, are on your heads. Live with it. Or suck on the barrel of one of your Glocks, pull the double trigger, and spare the rest of us.

It's over. No one cares. Go talk on forum about the shootings in Oregon.

I think the thread continues because those supporting the store continue to lie about the size of the initial rally against the gun store, the identities of those protesting, and the extent of community opposition to the store.

When news first came out that this store was moving to the location near FS, some suggested that people in McLean would be passive and indifferent, unlike those in Arlington. They were wrong. There was a rally last weekend that was organized in less than 24 hours, and attracted somewhere between 150-200. Almost all were local community members, so the repeated reference to 15 people from New York is bizarre.

The petition started to express opposition to the gun store continues to attract signatures. When I last checked, there were over 1860 signatures. Again, most of those signing live in McLean or nearby. They aren't "rent-a-signature" types living in other communities.

Numerous local politicians expressed their strong opposition to the store's location, including John Foust, Rip Sullivan, Marcus Simon, Ryan McElveen, Barbara Favola, Kathleen Murphy and Janie Strauss. Note that I mentioned the men first, because the gun-crazy posters keep claiming only "whiny soccer moms" oppose having a gun store near their elementary school. That's wrong, too. Many local dads think this is completely inappropriate.

People are educating themselves on the relevant state and local laws. Opposition to the store's location has not dissipated at all. If anything, it has intensified, now that Nova Firearms has put up a big sign advertising its presence on Chain Bridge Road. It will never be welcome in McLean; the adjacent business will lose many of customers; and local residents will hold accountable those politicians who pledged to do something about the store's location.

So deal with that before you declare victory. We aren't going to give up until that store is in a different location.

There are some real pro-gun crazies here, just as in Oregon.

People of sound mind and good conscious both here and elsewhere need to reduce the number of firearms and their influence in this country. Getting that POS gun store in McLean to move would be one good step locally.

It's over. I just drove by at 12:45. No protesters. Nothing. BUT A FULL PARKING LOT. The STeisand effect. You have driven business to the stores. because that's what McLean wants. Don't listen to the anti-gun crazies. It is truly over. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Streisand_effect
