Gun store opening next door to Franklin Sherman Elementary in Mclean

OP, are you afraid kids might start buying guns during recess? What is your concern?
Anonymous
Probably couldn't get any other tenant in there who can afford the rent.

Can anyone please share the laws on gun buying in Fairfax County? How old do you have to be, etc.
Anonymous
I also don't know what the concern is. Are crime rates higher around gun stores?

I don't have a link, but the cherrydale residents started a website and facebook page and as far as I can gather, the landlord elected to break the lease rather than suffer the long-term ill will of the community. Arlington Now covered it extensively; I'm sure you could search the archives for the story.

I thought it was coming to Vienna?

I would love to support the cause to keep it off our main street. I find gun stores cheapen the general perception of a community. Kind of like strip joints or liquor stores do, too. (Although, there is a distinction in my mind because no one ever used a stripper to kill school children.) But generally, I see those kinds of proprietors and I think that the town/city is not a very well-off or well-educated community. (Because usually well-off and well-educated people have enough resources to keep those kinds of stores from leasing prime property.) That's why it boggles my mind that it's going to be central to McLean's main "drag."

I am a little nervous because Arlingtonians are definitely more protective of their communities and are more prone to activism than the people I've met in McLean. So, I'm not as hopeful even if Cherrydale residents were able to keep them away.

It was going to be in a strip mall in Cherrydale. This is just a small house that used to have a single occupant, a portrait studio, so the landlord won't be as concerned with losing customers at other stores.

Some of the community list-serves are calling for a protest at 11 AM tomorrow.

Shocked that the FS PTA and administration has not rallied here. It diesnt even get any coverage in the patch.

Surely a location right next to a school is ridiculous.

McLean is simply pathetic compared to Arlington. in Arlington, the store was not even opening next to a school.

They shut it down. Same in Falls Church.

McLean is just so apathetic it makes me sick.

Maybe they kept it hush hush so that no one would know and try to stop them? I only noticed the signs today.

Here's the Instagram about the opening. By the owner. So cool ... #pewpewlife? #instagun? So creepy... And sad.

If it were an ABC store or a hooks bar, would you be equally outraged?

Yes, I would.

I'd be concerned about that Victoria's Secret/PINK at Tyson's corrupting McLean kids.

NOVA Firearms is relocating? Thanks for the update!
