So what? Some of the McLean residents who don't want a gun shop next to an elementary school are gun owners. Some of them might even be *gasp* republicans. What does that have to do with anything?

Perhaps you missed Miss Vicky's petition. She demanded that the shop get out of McLean. As a newcomer, she doesn't know that most McLean property owners have at least one gun.

Democrat Governor McAuliffe owns more than one gun, and he isn't shy to tell you so. I wouldn't at all be surprised if Foust owned a few as well. Of course he wouldn't want to get clobbered, so why tell you?

Maybe his wife forgot about that.

"During his State of the Commonwealth address in January, McAuliffe said residents “can no longer stand by as our fellow Virginians are lost to preventable and senseless acts of gun violence.”

“Even one Virginian’s precious life is too high a price to pay for our inability to reach a reasonable compromise on gun safety,” he added.

McAuliffe and other Democrats would enact sensible gun control laws, if not constrained by the Republicans who've enabled a culture of gun-inflicted violence. They are a disaster for the whole DC region.

It doesn't say exactly what he wants.

?

Just pick the opposite of how Barbara Comstock has voted

Universal Background Checks
Limits on Semi-automatic weapons

Not too hard.

So you guys can't even read a map? You don't even know your own congressional districts? For the last time, THE GUN STORE IS NOT IN BARBARA COMSTOCK'S DISTRICT. Stop making this thread about her. The gun store is in Don Beyer's (D) district and even he hasn't touched the matter becuase this is a local issue, not a federal one. http://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/504370.page

Her district is across the street from the gun store parking lot. The line is Old Chain Bridge Road. She should care. It was in her district before the most recent redistricting and will likely be again with the next one.

And part of the FS attendance area is in her district.

The owners of the gun store, by the way, are urging contributions to John Foust's opponent. A vote for Jennifer Chronis is a vote for gun rights over community and child safety.

Uh, the gun shop is not in Barbara Comstock's district. It is in Don Beyer's. He's a dem. and not doing anything about this issue because he knows how the people in McLean feel so he's ducking for cover This is a local Supervisor issue, not a federal one. I, for one, will be definitely voting for Chronis in the next round for Supervisor. We voted Foust out of getting Barbara Comstock's seat in the 10th congressional district and he will be bounced again from the Supervisor's seat.

The gun shop is flourishing. I drove by there today at 5.00. All the parking places were full. I've never seen that parking lot full. Think about it. Also go look at NoVA Firearms facebook page if you want to see some real support. Vicky shouldn't have tried her shenanigans in McLean. Those that want the shop moved are outsiders. I haven't seen any familiar name associated with nor have i recognized anyone on the brief one-day T.V. blitz. If you lived here you would know what a disatrous PR move this has been by the anti-gun people. Since Friday, I have seen a full parking lot every single day I have driven by.

I hate to say it, but this issue has forced me to vote all D in November. I can't believe there is hardly any republican that's for tough gun control. Just look at other advanced countries and their death rate.

You obviously don't live in Virginia. Virginia is an open carry state. People all around VA walk around with guns exposed or have concealed carry permits. Republicans don't run for office here on the "tough gun control" platform. Why would they? Virginians want their 2nd amendment rights. Why would a Republican try to cross that? You're not making any sense.

[quote=Anonymous]According to former (and conservative) Supreme Court Chief Justice Warren Burger, "The gun lobby's interpretation of the Second Amendment is one of the greatest pieces of fraud, I repeat the word fraud, on the American people by special interest groups that I have ever seen in my lifetime. The real purpose of the Second Amendment was to ensure that state armies – the militia – would be maintained for the defense of the state. The very language of the Second Amendment refutes any argument that it was intended to guarantee every citizen an unfettered right to any kind of weapon here she desires."

It shows how little the gun crazies who sell weapons near schools actually know about the Constitution. Real patriots protect, not endanger, the nation's children.

I can't believe how ignorant the anti-gun people on this thread are. Warren Burger was a whack-job liberal. How could you not know that? Yes, he was appointed by Nixon but was a terrible Chief Justice and issued liberal decisions (and stupid ones at that). He was a walking train wreck. Even wiki calls him a liberal in the first sentence. Just give it up if you can't even get the congressional people right or Warren Burger's politics right. You are hurting your anti-gun cause. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warren_E._Burger. The shop is fourlishing by the way. Go read their facebook page. It's over folks.

You seem to be living in some fantasy version of Virginia that exists only in your own imagination, rather than the state that Obams carried twice; that has a Democratic governor and two Democratic senators; and that has many local jurisdictions such as Arlington and Fairfax controlled by Democrats. The right-wing gun nuts have no future in this county. I've voted for some Republican candidates in the past, but not this fall. They just render themselves more and more irrelevant with their Tea Party candidates and their unwillingness to stand up for families and children. All they seem to care about are guns and interfering with women's reproductive rights.

Anonymous wrote:Again, Comstock deals with federal issues only, as does Beyer. Look at the names here on last week's news release - all state. Beyer's name isn't listed because he too works on federal issues. That's the way our system works. You elect Supervisors to handle local stuff; legislative reps to handle state stuff; and Congressmen and Senators to handle federal stuff.

Beyer's been active in support of gun control initiatives and the Feds could certainly adopt legislation that preempt state law. No matter how you slice it the Republican politicians do us all a disservice by sucking up to gun crazies and the NRA, and remaining silent in the face of both gun violence and intentionally provocative acts such as opening gun stores near schools.

But Beyer is not on this list. http://www.barbarafavola.org/news-events

Beyer has been silent on the 1/8 mile movement of the gun shop. See his facebook page or web page.

+ 1. MIA. Google John Beyer McLean Gun Shop. He's been absolutely silent - so much for the claims that all the Dems are against the gun shop. I count only Foust and he has gone into full retreat with his tail between his legs.

So you disagree that it is an open carry state? That McLean is predominantly R, having trounced Foust in his attempt to best Comstock (R)? The anti-gun lobby's mistake was in taking on McLean. No one here truly cares about this issue except for the outsiders and their list of names. The protests stopped. There are no emails. No one is discussing it. The gun shop is flourishing. The local papers aren't covering it. It's last week's new. Why do you keep on with the misdirected attacks?

You are delusional. McLean is predominantly Democratic now and will only become more so with the right-wing Republicans supporting gun store owners from Maryland who are putting their kids at risk and hurting their property values.

The anti-gun store petition has over 2200 signatures now, with most signers from McLean. The pro-gun store petition is more like 1000 signatures with very few signers from McLean. You should have thought harder before renting the store to a firearms store, Mr. JJ.
