Dear middle-aged women: capri pants do nothing for you.

Yep, that's it. I am fat and don't look good in capri pants, and that's why I think no one (fat or thin) looks good in capris.

Try again. I'm young, fit, 5ft7 and ~120lbs... and it's pretty likely I also look like shit in capri pants. I wouldn't know because I was a preteen the last time I wore them.

I mean this as a friendly message, truly. It is not an insult to anyone's body type, it is the style of clothing itself that is horrible. If you adore your capris and think they are flattering, by all means, keep wearing them. I knew the message of my OP wouldn't be popular, but you've been warned. Out of the many people I saw today (of all body types), none was wearing the mythical flattering cut.

Believe me, you are not being friendly, you are being a bitch.

Same here. I was waiting for someone to resurrect it.. and you people didn't disappoint.

I've never liked capris. I think they look ridiculous. Only for girls age 12-16. Nobody else should wear them. I hope they die out.

Seeing as this thread is six years old and both it and capris are still with us, I expect that this battle won't end anytime soon.

Adding: to think, I wasn't even a middle aged woman when this thread began, and now I am. Maybe I will pick up some capris. I used to hate them but I've sort of changed my mind.

So skirts it is. I find them more comfortable than capris, since you get more air on your legs when you wear them.

Sigh. The knees. Ugh. I'm 47 and my legs have always been my best feature--no veins, olive skin, very muscular with no cellulite--former soccer player and runner---but the knees are starting to go south. The skin all around the knees for even the fittest women as they age eventually goes--then it goes crepey. There is little hope.

I get so hot in the summer that I can't stand anything on my legs. I also do skirts or T-shirt dresses. I will wear shorts on a run or hike though. My DH still loves me legs and thinks the knee thing is in my head--but I see it starting.

I'm your age and I bet your knees look fine! I love the shape of my legs but my skin is paper white with a bluish tint (thanks to translucent skin and veins, and not the kind of veins you can get rid of, I actually need these). 30 years ago when I tanned like crazy, it was good enough, though still not great. Now, of course, no more tanning beds and I don't have enough time to self-tan, apply leg make-up, whatever. When you see me at soccer games in my capri pants, I'm doing a public service - no one needs to see these legs.

Didn't we solve this thread already? Loose capri pants, gauchos, or coulottes - NO. Skinny/straight leg ankle pants - YES.

Man, in the years since this thread started culottes came back in style. I bought a pair for this summer. They are super cute.

You know it is spring when the capri thread is resurrected! And STILL people are wearing these hideous things - people just wear long skirts/dresses if you hate your legs and pants/jeans make you too hot!

It's not the pants. It's the body. Middle aged frumpy woman with stubby legs wearing capris and sneakers? Ugly. Tall willowy woman with nice legs wearing capris and cute wedges ? Sexy and stylish.
A woman with a nice figure looks good in just about anything. The challenge is how to dress when your body does not look like a models.

Like the swallows return to Capistrano. Or the red stinging jellyfish to Springfield.

If you are really fat (like I am), they are useful. Cooler than long pants on a hot day, but not as uncomfortable and revealing as shorts. I suspect many other capri wearers just want comfortable clothing that covers their fat.
