Friday's "snow?"

Hearing now that some of the buses didn’t make it today either to pick up the kids. Dropping off kids at school late and seeing other parents saying that the other bus didn’t come for 30 minutes.

That is a lie. I am there and there is maybe 1/4 inch at 8.40.

Are you Taylor's mom? I just typed bethesda into weather dot gov snow total map and it says .7 inches in bethesda.

Maybe on the grass. Roads and sidewalks are clear

+1. Just walked my ES kid in Bethesda 10 minutes to school. Maybe a half inch on the grass, nothing on the roads. Traffic fine-seemed like fewer cars on the road but driving more slowly.

MS kid arrived on time to school by bus. I’m happy MCPS opened today.

Absolutely not clear. I’m in Rockville. All of the neighborhood roads have some kind of snow cover somewhere on them. It is especially bad at some of the intersections at small neighborhood roads like where they go into the schools. In addition, many of the highways ramps have full coverage of snow. That’s starting to go away now that the cars are actually traveling on it.

My tiny Rockville road was just treated so I assume most will be soon.

PP again and I feel the need to chime in here about all the people making fun of the idea of closing schools - I see hardly anyone advocating for that! But a delay should have been considered here given the issues with buses (too early to tell about the ES buses) here in south county.

Thanks for checking in from sunny Florida

From our principal: Safety First! Bus Delays

Good Morning Lakelands Park Families,

Unfortunately, conditions on the roads are very bad and we are getting reports of accidents on nearby roads. Additionally, our busses are arriving late and our transportation office has informed us that bus route 2321 will be an hour late.

All late arrivals to school will be automatically excused.

Uhh, that's pretty embarrassing. They didn't recognize any landmarks? I think that was a parody.

What? I don't understand.

I don't understand how anyone neurotypical could get lost simply due to not seeing the sidewalk. Are they trained to follow a painted line?

Don’t use clinical language in colloquial conversations. Just say “normal.”

Pray tell, what is the definition of “normal?” And can you point us to the rule that polices our language such that we can’t use words that may occur in a clinical setting?

DP

I have a child with ASD and find the growing use of "neurotypical" in these contexts pretty gross. You wouldn't say "normal" because you know it is offensive so you substitute another word that means the same things to you. Not any better.

If they send the kids home at 3pm in this mess we riot.

But a delay would mean kids going to school at the height of the snow..that makes no sense

Also from the school:
Please be aware that bus 2313 is currently stuck at the intersection of Quince Orchard Blvd and Purchase Street. Ms. Alvarez is currently on her way to support and the Transportation Depot is aware of the situation. Parents are encouraged to pick their children up if possible, otherwise students will remain on the bus until it's safe to proceed.

Just drove from Shady Grove Road to Grovsner Metro. It is bad on the roads.

Because you idiots complained the other day someone will get hurt.

If you don't want to take care of your own kids stop having them.

Actually I was posting from lightly snowing Bethesda. Perhaps you should leave the warmth of your keyboard and go outside and then you can realize that this isn’t a blizzard and that it’s a pretty day outside.

Parents who complained the other day screw you.

Stuck in what?!?!? If a bus driver gets stuck in this level of snow, they need a new profession.

The main reason people complained on Tuesday is because Taylor opened high schools at 9:45 but did not allow morning childcare to open meaning teachers could not get to work on time. He (sort of) apologized for that.

I would absolutely complain again about that psychotic decision. And him choosing to open schools today is on him. A closure with offices and child care open would have been completely fine with me.

There’s no use arguing with the loud fools insisting everyone is being a baby about a little snow. You know they’ll keep saying the same dumbass things no matter what - “So what that a whole bus full of kids ended up in a ditch, it’s their own fault for choosing to ride with a bad driver”
