Keep on educating people so hopefully they’ll stop blaming the employers and hold the people who are actually breaking the law accountable |
Gang violence and other dangerous crime should be the number 1 priority. However, we should severely penalize American employers hiring illegal immigrants. It's exploitative. Put the blame where it belongs, on companies undercutting American labor and taking advantage of desperate people |
Why would he need to shake them if they're flying on the president's plane? Just toss them on and if they attack their own president's staff and pilot, let them sort it out. |
Did a little light bulb go off in your head as to why all labor unions didn’t endorse Biden/Harris? Because it should have. |
The vast majority did so FO. |
Dream on. Pictures and video of deportees in chains been captured. Just run the reel over and over. You think this con artist in chief is just actually going to damage the economy for nothing. It's probably going to be more or less business as usual, just with a lot more chains and shackles and super expensive planes. |
This is not going to go well for Columbia. |
Trump won this round, Colombia blinked. Your coffee and cut flower prices are safe /s
Byebye illegal immigrants https://www.axios.com/2025/01/27/trump-colombia-tariffs-paused LATEST UPDATE: Trump pausing Colombia tariffs after migrants deal, White House says • “The Government of Colombia has agreed to all of President Trump’s terms, including the unrestricted acceptance of all illegal aliens from Colombia returned from the United States, including on U.S. military aircraft, without limitation or delay. Based on this agreement, the fully drafted IEEPA tariffs and sanctions will be held in reserve, and not signed, unless Colombia fails to honor this agreement.” ”The visa sanctions issued by the State Department, and enhanced inspections from Customs and Border Protection, will remain in effect until the first planeload of Colombian deportees is successfully returned.” ”Today’s events make clear to the world that America is respected again. President Trump will continue to fiercely protect our nation’s sovereignty, and he expects all other nations of the world to fully cooperate in accepting the deportation of their citizens illegally present in the United States.” |
So flights to Colombia can continue just as they were happening during the Biden administration. |
Who is the lady arriving in Chicago with Trump? |
So flights to Colombia can continue just as they were happening during the Biden administration? Exactly, LOL! It’ll be business as usual. |
Not quite the same. Colombian president was upset because they are being treated like criminals and handcuffed with Trump. That was his protest. Other than that same as Biden except Trump is doing everything he can to make it a spectacular show. |
Not quite the same. Colombia was turning planes back, not anymore. Colombia actually offering to send their own planes to take people back. |
They’ll be fine, traffic around Merriweather Post Pavilion will still suck though. |
Actually, it sounds like the decision to turn back the plane was a unilateral one by their president who is a “colorful” guy like Trump. The two had a pissing match on x for hours before calmer and more mature officials prevailed and smoothed things out. From the WP this evening: “Despite the detente, the dramatic dispute was the most significant diplomatic crisis in decades between the United States and one of its most important allies in Latin America. It also apparently took officials from both countries by surprise. Washington and Bogotá have for years had a bilateral agreement allowing for regular deportation flights that have, until now, gone to Colombia at the rate of at least twice a week without problems. Under the agreement, the United States sends Colombia a manifest 48 hours in advance of the flights with the names of the deportees, and Colombia provides authorization before the planes take off. That happened in this case, according to a Colombian official who spoke on the condition of anonymity about the sensitive issue, and Bogotá agreed to accept the flight. It was unclear whether or when Petro was made aware that, for the first time, the planes being used were U.S. military C-17s, although video of shackled deportees being marched onto military aircraft was widely televised and posted on social media. The Colombian official said more than 200 people were on the two flights to Colombia. The planes were approaching Bogotá early Sunday morning when Petro “decided to deny entry” and, within minutes, posted on X that he had done so, the official said. Shortly thereafter, Trump posted about his retaliatory actions, with Colombia’s Petro matching his bluster on social media promising retaliatory duties.” |
