It's the pro-gun lobby strategy to blame gun violence on mental illness.

Let’s be honest, Dr. Evans probably needs to retire.

Silly comment, from someone trying to use this situation to either spread hate or any grudges. I do know that he does what’s best for the kids, and holds the helicopter parents at bay without impacting his decisions. He is open-minded to what’s best for the whole and some don’t like that.

This is the same guy who didn’t follow policy and failed to call the police and an ambulance when a kid got a skull fracture in a fight in 2019 and ended up in the hospital. After his performance yesterday, yeah, he should probably retire.

The person (people) constantly posting about McKnight's appearance are doing the anti-McKnight group no favors. You sound like a mean girl, immature and just plain dumb.

Maybe you're actually a pro-McKnight person trying to make the other side Trump-like, bullying and making fun of people's appearances.

IDK.

We all know who the student was and who was shot.

This timeline is extremely disturbing.

Wow. I am totally shook at the timeline and misinformation from MCPS after a shooting at Magruder.

The knee jerk reaction was to attempt passing off a shooting as a medical emergency???? What type of BS MCPS Administrator training teaches principals to not be upfront and honest with the community that a student had been shot in the school bathroom???? This is why parents no longer have any trust in MCPS. Flat out deceptive lies.

A situation of the magnitude of a shooting is why SROs need to be in schools. MCPS cares jack sh$t about safety of students and staff. They are complete idiots that didn’t recognize the severity of the situation of a critically injured student in their bathroom. What would the reaction and call to dispatch have been if an SRO been on the scene to begin with? I bet all of the squad cars would have had lights on and swat there in a heartbeat because a uniformed police officer would fully report the magnitude of the situation one she/he has eyes on it.

I pray to God that the Board of Ed comes to its senses and bring SROs back into schools and look into why administrators time in and time out are dishonest when issues occur on their watch.

RICA, which is juvenile jail (literally) and you end up there only after the court finds you guilty of a crime.
m

This is a complete misrepresentation of RICA. RICA is a school for kids with emotional disabilities who need medical management along with special education.

Noyes is the juvenile detention center.

Honest question, what would a SRO have done in this situation?

What is the County Council doing about it? Jawando and Reimer who eliminated the SROs? Are your kids in public schools?

My 8th grader applied to the Aviation program there. Ugh.

My kid goes there. It’s a great school. I’m very appreciative of how the school staff handled this. They had to be the first responders and they did a great job keeping 1600 kids safe.

The thing is gun violence is up across the country. And much of it is among kids. It could happen anywhere, unfortunately.

This is bullshit.

My friends’ kids go there. It is a good school at its heart. The teachers in the aviation program are solid and committed. The principal is planning to retire in a few years; if this makes him move faster, then that’s not a bad thing.

One of my kids went to Magruder. I thought it was an excellent school. And I really thought the principal did a fine job. Mine graduated last year so I’m not out of touch with the community. I wouldn’t have any more concerns about Magruder than any other high school in MCPS or around the country. It’s not like the school condones weapons being brought to school. And the emergency responses are run by law enforcement not the principal or school staff.

Right now our country has a problem with the way guns are viewed. Guns on Christmas cards. Concealed carry. A mom threatening to bring guns to school in VA over masking issues - yes I know she says she was misunderstood and used an unfortunate choice of words. Lack of mental health services for kids in crisis. It’s not a surprise that our schools are not safe and it’s time to take a long hard look at that and how we make changes instead of criticizing leadership over their clothing choices and decisions made by law enforcement.

I am very sorry for the Magruder community but this isn’t their fault. It isn’t the fault of McKnight. And it isn’t t the fault of others at MCPS.

The problem is the adults-parents. They should be held accountable.
