How can you tell if someone is conservative?

I'm a conservative woman. I work, am ivy league educated, pro-birth control, pro-choice, etc. The stereotypes aren't helpful. In my case, I became conservative (despite disagreeing about many things) once I got the memo on what teacher's unions are doing to education. I'm also disgusted at the prospect of spending 3.5t, respect law enforcement, and didn't appreciate not just having my window broken in the "peaceful protesting" but came to resent that I couldn't even dare mention that anything un-peaceful happened. Bye.

IF YOU ARE NOT PRO-LIFE, YOU ARE *NOT* A CONSERVATIVE!!

Why not? I consider myself pro-life, I think life begins at conception. I think there’s a sanctity to the life that a woman carries in her womb. But I also respect that women need to make decisions for themselves with regards to abortion.

The pp conservative describes me well. I was liberal but I slowly morphed into a conservative over the past 2 years. It's the "agree with us or you will pay" mentality of the left that made me reconsider my views.

But I'm still pro choice and one thing I have learned through reading polling rsults is that many conservatives are pro choice. For me, idea that the government can't force someone to carry a pregnancy seems very compatible with conservative ideology.

Nothing. They're everywhere and in your neighborhood. 🙄

I avoid them. We have block parties and I let my kids know who not to engage with. As a POC I abhor the current Republican Party. People who vote GOP are not sane. They’ll try to smile and make nice and then go vote for policies that will hurt my family and our future. Frankly GTFO if you’re a Republican. I don’t want to make nice.

We actually avoid you too. You’re usually the harpy over there on the side, screaming about tolerance and values while hating everyone else who doesn’t look like you or sound like you.

You don’t sound particularly principled if the “woke police” have caused you to do a complete 180 on the proper role of government. But I do agree about your point - you’d think being pro choice is compatible with conservative ideology, but conservatives have decided long ago that they only way they we’re going to advance their pro-business agenda was to do whatever it took to capture the pro-forced birth single issue voting block. But really, forcing some people to birth children isn’t such a far stretch from believing that well off business owners should be free to employ people in substandard conditions for slave wages on misguided theories about the market and the power (or lack there of) of an individual, starving laborer. I mean, everyone has “choice” here right? If people weren’t dumb, they wouldn’t be forced to work for $7.50/hr in toxic conditions. They could just walk to the next employer offering $7.55/hr and split shifts incompatible with having any sort of life. If sluts didn’t choose to be sluts, they wouldn’t have to birth children that they would be strongly encouraged, for lack of supports, to relinquish to their social betters.

Even though I abhor their principles and think they are terrible for society and encourage free loading, I can respect a principled conservative. But really, many modern conservatives have very populist, very authoritarian views that have nothing to do with individual choice and principles. It’s all about grievance, domination, and fear. Kind of pathetic, really.

What facts changed? I’m a liberal and see no problem calling out the work police when they step out of line. It didn’t cause me to change my worldview or my principles. But you have sort of proved another point for me- conservatives don’t define themselves by what they are for, only what they are against. Liberals “caused” you to change your mind. I guess the attempted coup by your fellow conservatives on January 6 had no impact on you at all. Hmm.

Can't stand liberals. I can spot those crazy chicks right away.

I don’t think you can.

I wear pearls and Sperrys and blazers but I’m moderately liberal.

Nothing. They're everywhere and in your neighborhood. 🙄

I didn’t vote for Trump in 2016. But, when he won, the next day when I dropped my kids off at their NW DC school, there were literally parents who were crying and holding each other in their grief

Does the fact that I found that hilarious make me a bad person 🤣

Yes. Trump was a dumpster fire and everyone knew it.

Well, the alternative was Hillary. I’ll take 4 years of Trump over that any day.

And watching grown liberal men weep into their soy lattes was just fantastic.

I’ll admit I voted for Trump in 2020, mostly out of spite.

Meh I think spiteful actually is a pretty descriptive adjective for current conservatives.

4. Lack of attributes identifying her as being left leaning (pink/blue hair, hybrid vehichle, pronouns on LinkedIn, etc)?

I’m an independent, moderate, voted for Biden, and meet all of these criteria.

This. Why can’t people understand that not everyone is as black or white as the majority of the (vocal?) left and right have become. I am pro life for myself, and it saddens me a lot to think about someone having an abortion after six weeks. BUT, i think people should have a choice up to a certain, longer point (not sure where I think that point should be because I try to keep my mind out of this political issue). The “conservative woman” pp sounds so much like me re the issues she referenced. But here’s one she didn’t mention that will really blow the other pp’s mind - I am very very much anti-guns and think they should be outlawed as much as possible and then super strict screening and monitoring laws/regulations to the extent allowed. Also support gay marriage and transgender rights. Also 100% against the death penalty. But I still consider myself a conservative. I’m just very much on the left for social issues, but for everything else from economy/taxes, immigration, military, education, domestic policy, environmental, and healthcare, I am far right.
