This is the very definition of heresy. Are you a heretic? |

Not sure how relevant it is to the discussion, but I get the sense that a much higher percentage of Republicans are likely to self-describe as "conservative" than Democrats who are likely to self-describe as "liberal/progressive." This has seemingly remained the case even as "conservative" has expanded from things like limited government, moral behavior, and fiscal responsibility to instead include intrusive government policies, flagrantly immoral politicians who happen to stick it to liberals, and exploding deficit spending.
I don't know if the Democrats smaller likelihood of self-identifying as progressive/liberal as having to do with decades of conservative media denigrating the word "liberal," or maybe Democrats having a bigger tent than Republicans, or maybe a stronger sense of tribalism among Republicans. Or maybe my underlying premise is just wrong and Democrats are just as likely to self-identify as liberal. |

A so-called “US flag” is a solid tell.
But a actual flagpole is a dead giveaway. |
My neighbor has a US and Marines flag in his yard. He's a democrat. |
I wonder whether Jan 6 fallout is changing that? Plus the Trump rallies looked like Jonestown cult meetings - I have life long conservative friends who were horrified by both and the extreme radicals self identifying as conservatives …. Sensible people prefer to not place too much of their identity in arbitrary labels that mean different things to different people … |
