No other group is more insistent on not being left alone. No other "oppressed minority group" is more celebrated and gets more exposure.

-pride rainbow flags everywhere
-pride parties at the White House
-forcing people to use your preferred pronouns
-demanding access to women's spaces and pride parades
-drag queen story hours at publics schools and libraries?

Hello! Why do you say they want to be left alone while they are begging to be seen, heard, tolerated, accepted and validated?

Asking to be left alone and asking to be seen and acknowledged are not inconsistent. But, your posts (and the +1 before this) are consistent with those statements of someone who thinks their clever but, in reality, are just ignorant douche bags.

Yes it is. Why is there a need to be seen and acknowledged? Why so desperate for attention?

We see you! We hear you! Could we all please move on now?!

No, moving on would mean paying attention to serious topics like de-dollarization, NK firing missiles constantly, banking crises, a loss in the confidence in U.S. leadership around the world, constant violence in the cities.

Can't have that. Things aren't going well. Back to LGBTQIA.

WOW. Amazing. I personally am fine with gay marriage, but this is an eye-opener. Not just what he says (!!) but how completely different, forceful, and sharp he was. Can't even fathom him speaking in this way on any topic now.

It’s almost like he can read the room, and adjust.

I remember that he voted for DOMA, so this isn’t shocking. It’s not even remotely a surprise. DOMA screwed a lot of people, and I believe it was a terrible idea, but it was better than a marriage amendment.

Don't take my word for it. It's all over youtube.

Contagion? Maybe. You don't think children will take cues from what their parents push?

What exactly is the endgame here? To have half tbe population LGBTQIA? Tell me what the goal is, so I can know when we've arrived. Just WTF is it you want?

A TV or movie character is not going to make someone gay. Jesus. What is wrong with you?

The gay agenda when it comes to Disney movies is that they can take their kids to see it when it comes out. Maybe item 2 on that movie agenda would be not letting their kids talk them into spending $75 at the snack bar. This is if after the gay agenda items of grocery shopping, and carting their kids around to various sports.

+1000 to the bolded. It will no more make you gay than watching Lassie turned anyone into a collie dog.

You guys are both reading below grade level

The PP’s point was that maybe it isn’t a coincidence that both children of a lady wholeheartedly devoted to LGBTQIA+++ issues turn out to be gender nonconforming.

Pansexual is not “gender non-confirming.” It has to do with sexuality, as the name would indicate.

I know other families with more than one queer in them. I’m bi, and so is my child. She did not know I was bi until I started dropping hints after I saw a text between her and and her friend about her sexuality. I didn’t make my child bi. She is who she is.

I had to look up pansexual - just sounds like bi, no?

anyway, PP's specific point aside (I am not PP and it wasn't my point), I personally know families with multiple kids who are gender nonconforming, but only in very liberal schools, and the parents aren't trans

personally I find social factors much less likely in sexuality because you have to put your money where your... never mind... but in the case of gender it seems completely obviously possible that when environments are more welcoming (see I'm using the nice word) towards gender configurations that don't really require any initial commitments in terms of new behavior.... you will get more kids opting in to those

which is all totally fine as far as it goes - kids have probably been trying out identities since Jesus rode dinosaurs - BUT in the particular case of trans, there's a danger that kids who are just trying to figure out what works for them will be "affirmed" right into lifelong medicalization by what I'm sure are well-meaning adults

none of this means there aren't trans people who know it early and stick with it for life

but it's a complicated topic

Gender dysphoria and BIID have very similar ages of onset. BIID has been called “trans-abled,” which I believe is a term to press emotional buttons. The concepts are similar, in that a patient believes part of their body is not as it should be. The condition doesn’t just go away. Some patients seek surgical treatments that would be unethical in all other circumstances. Surgeons agree because these patients will attempt to damage their own body parts in order to get them removed. The level of distress caused by BIID and gender dysphoria have a range, so I don’t believe there is a one size fits all treatment approach.

There is a rapid onset gender dysphoria that I find questionable, but more studies need to be done. I’m not a psychiatrist.

I wasn't going to expend the energy to respond to that, but I'm glad you did. I think Americans would be thrilled to simply live and let live - gay people are completely mainstream now. For some reason, the LGBT community REALLY loves to draw attention to itself though. Very curious.

Its not "curious".. as others have said theres a large group of lgbt that wants to live a largely mainstream type life. But theres a small minority that demands extreme life style choices such as "puppy play" are affirmed by everone around them (and your a homophobe if you dare to object to your 6y old learning about them)

Jackie Gleason and Bob Hope doing the drag for US troops, grooming them to be good soldiers:

Prediction: if you did a drag show in front of the troops today, the rightwing outrage machine would explode.

This is skit from a Bob Hope special that was taped in NYC. What you see is a comedic take on a real event of NYC cops donning women's clothes to nab men who harassed women. It's not a drag show. #bebest

Lol you think Fox News today would explain that nuance to their audience?

Ronald Reagan starred in This Is The Army in the 40s. It was a movie similar to the real drag shows that traveled to raise money for the war effort.

Courts pushed lgbt stuff way before the public was ready

Remember, even in California gay marriage failed the ballot

To answer OP’s question: all the way, but slowly, so as to pretend it’s “just trans” and “they’re just going too far.”

Our politicians bring some issues to the forefront for shock-value purposes. The primary agenda behind many campaign strategies is continually reminding the sheep of why they should fear the awful other side with the end goal being to prevent voters from shifting from reliably red or blue to possibly swing voters. Political messaging that targets keeping the sheep in line is just as important as the messaging geared towards recruiting swing voters. Most of us are sheep and some of us are swing voters but all of our votes are targeted with carefully planned political messaging campaigns that are very effective at using fear and shock-value to woo voters. Fox News, MSNBC and the likes align their messaging to the messaging coming from the base of the party they are in bed with to make it very difficult for American voters to step outside of the political bubble that encapsulates them.

What you say may be true, but it has been my observation that the push back on the trans agenda is not coming from politicians.
It is coming from parents whose children are being forced to participate in pride activities in schools. It is coming from consumers who want companies to stop with the virtue signaling in trying to sell their products. And, it is coming from sports fans who want to keep the whole Pride push out of the sports arena.

I agree for the most part but it does seem as though Desantis is exaggerating some of the questionable aspects of the woke/LBGTQ agenda to stoke irrational fears. Both sides have inflated and distorted what's right and wrong with these types of social agendas to stoke fear for political gain.

The actions DeSantis has taken is a direct result of parental concerns about the crap that was appearing in schools.
It started with parents.

A certain kind of parents.

Liberals shocked when dog bites man

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/jun/17/hamtramck-michigan-muslim-council-lgbtq-pride-flags-banned

😂 😂 😂

“ They viewed the power shift and diversity as a symbolic but meaningful rebuke of the Islamophobic rhetoric that was a central theme of then Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s campaign.

This week many of those same residents watched in dismay as a now fully Muslim and socially conservative city council passed legislation banning Pride flags from being flown on city property that had – like many others being flown around the country – been intended to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community.”

😂

“ While Hamtramck is still viewed as a bastion of multiculturalism, the difficulties of local governance and living among neighbors with different cultural values quickly set in following the 2015 election. Some leaders and residents are now bitter political enemies engaged in a series of often vicious battles over the city’s direction, and the Pride flag controversy represents a crescendo in tension.”

Doesn’t mean they wish ill on people who struggle with it

But they sure don’t want their kids to think of it as just another fine option for a way to be, nor do they feel it’s something that needs to be publicly celebrated

I'm fine with Jill taking those powerful estrogen drugs. I'm even wiling to call Jill a she/her. I'm NOT okay with my kid doing it though! In fact, I really wish Jill would stop walking around the neighborhood with her dog because my kid might catch the trans.

Don’t tell me you want to force detransitioners to debate their existence

They’re welcome to exist all day long. Just like trans people are.

So you agree that this path is a mistake for some people

With permanent consequences

Do you agree that some people aren’t making a mistake and that transition is right for them?

Sure

But if you think there’s no social contagion or influence you are just kidding yourself

I have family members w kids in school in very blue areas and the numbers and clustering of kids with gender identification issues is just amazing

This. Something very strange is happening.
