Cash app founder murdered walking in San Francisco

How could the doctor stay married after this? Is that some cultural thing too?

They intersected bc the sister is/was hot and got attention on the social scene. Curious that the doctor was not there with her it seems?

Her husband was likely helping to keep Nima's project afloat and may have paid for the lawyer for the dui's, knife arrest, etc.

Had Nima been an only child, life would look very different.

Kind of a Sanchez move but an unsuccessful one that put the relationship with the doctor in jeopardy. The doctor who supported his non-working wife and possibly Nima's kind of vanity company. Bob went from being the target/mark to being a threat to the status quo, possibly.

Bob moving away may have been a wrench in a plan, thus the need to firm things up on this trip.

This is a woman who wears $1,000 sunglasses to court, $ and jobs are not irrelevant. If Bob was a barista, would her interest flag? Nima's?

Good point, PP.

What did his wife actually do? We don’t know anything. She did hang out with the victim but it’s not even clear if they were ever alone

Has anyone ruled out a gay romance?

Seems to be more about the sister and $$$.

The fact that Bob was staying an extra night may have given the sister high hopes that Bob was serious about her. Instead, Bob wanted to hang out with their mutual friend Witness 1 and invited her to tagalong. Her disappointment may have triggered the grilling from Nima.

They were apparently alone in her apartment. Hence her statement that she fell asleep and didn't know when Bob left.

I guess we need to wait to find that out for sure. I think there just isn’t enough info. She was asked if Bob returned, she said yes but only for a short time and and she doesn’t know when he left as she fell asleep.
Why would she volunteer something like “oh but DH and so and so were there too, why don’t you ask them”.

Interesting point.

I am still quite curious about the woman shouting in Nima's bldg the night before the murder. She seemed eager to find him but did not know him well enough to know which unit was his or to call him. Hmmm.

Do we know Witness 1 is a woman? I had thought it might be, one woman hanging out with just guys would have seemed more uncomfortable.

This is so sad and messy and pointless. Ugh.

How did the wife of a doctor even end up in his party circle? Doesn’t she have kids?

She doesn’t, and they could have met via her brother

Per his contacts, it appeared he knew the brother through her.

I wonder if the doctor did plastic surgery on Lee's not yet ex-wife? And if paths crossed in his office?

Why are you dismissing the link between the brother and Bob. It's an established link. Why does Bob also need to know the dr for this to make sense? I'm confused why this is coming up since the link is established.

There is no link between Bin and Nima without the sister. Nima was some no-degree one man IT shop in the suburbs. Bob was CTO of a billion dollar tech company. They don’t work in same circles.

Lots of people in tech dont have degrees.

It looks like Nima was a software engineer at tech companies previously. I think you're overestimating the social stratification in the tech world. A C team person will absolutely know some SEs that they met along the way.

My point is this guy has no college connections, no career overlap with Lee, and worked at 3rd tier companies before putting up his IT shingle in a field that has no overlap with with Bob did (Android development at Google and then mobile payments as at Square).

Nima 2005 he was network engineer at Marfic Technologies, and subsequently at Coast Range Technologies, according to The Chronicle. He worked as a consultant for a number of years before launching Expand IT in 2010. Nima was 25 when he started that “company”, Bob was a married 30 year old tech executive — there’s just no way they had much overlap.

In addition, it sounds like his phone lists Nima as K’s brother! Indicating he knew K first.

I don't doubt that he could have met Khazar through Bob, but not because Nima was too far beneath Bob socially. What is thought of as a "third tier company" in DC circles is thought of as a "startup" in SV and there is actually interest and overlap. It's considered a street cred thing to work at startups. They aren't as into fake status as DC is.

Some startups are legit. Not all 3rd tier companies are startups, they are just small businesses

Largely, the only people who matter from a startup are the founders; employees of startups are by and large rubes who were sold magic beans (stock options) for their work, sweat, and talent rather than market rate comp.

You are trying to understand the tech industry through the lens of DC social politics and it isn't working.

The "SF is soooo not like DC" nonsense is hilarious. The tech money social scene in SF is very closed off.

It's not though. I'm married to a tech bro and it's not the same as DC. The idea that no one in a C suite job would be willing to interact with a software engineer, or that people look down on startup employees apart from founders, is total nonsense. Bob wouldn't look at Nima through the lens of "I'm above you and therefore we can't interact." That's giving DC hill committee staff, not SV.

Also in this world. Their paths just would not intersect, truly. It's not like a founder looks down on a real software engineer he went to Stanford with or something. But a guy who isn't employed and didn't go to college - it's not so much "look down" as "is this person likely to be in the same social circle as someone with tens or hundreds of millions of dollars"

But they did intersect. No one is as isolated to their own socioeconomic circle as dcum likes to pretend.

My point wasn’t that Bob looked down on Nima, it’s just they would never interact.

How would Bob get to know him, would he hire home to wire his house? Shopping for switchblades? Most people know people from college or friends of people from college, places they’ve worked, and recreation . In what world would an unemployed IT network engineer in Oakland even run into Bob often enough to start a friendship and built on what? They had zero shared interests. Bob lived in Marin County!

People were saying Nima was a tech exec, but he wasn’t just some other rube faking it like half the valley

PP dating a BROGRAMMER. I can’t even believe you called him that. And he works at a startup not a FAANG right? You should head over to Hacker News and understand what you are in for.

Sister married doctor in 2013 but was meeting men on apps in 2019. Brother seemed to be kind of a wingman? From link above

But the couple’s relationship may have been more complicated than Elyassnia’s interviews and social media would suggest. A man interviewed by The Standard described matching with Khazar Momeni on a dating app in 2019. He said he later met up with her and her brother at a bar and eventually visited her home. “They were very nice, super social people,” he said.

So the "honor killing" idea may be a bit farfetched.

So exactly as PP thought, sis and bro were working hard to trade up.
