None will be as grand as this. Simply the age of the three and by the time George is King, the traditions will likely be no more.

There’s no guarantee the traditions will be gone.

DP. I don’t even think there’s a guarantee that there will be a monarchy by the time it’s George’s turn.

King Farouk of Egypt - predicted that at the end of WWII there would be five kings in Europe:

“Soon there will be only five Kings left- the King of Spades, The King of Clubs, the King of Hearts, and the King of Diamonds and the King of England."

LOL I like him.

Does anyone know if Anderson Cooper said his own stupid things all day or did the producers feed him stupid material to say?

Since his beloved mother died he has been dragged from pillar to post, forced to sit at small desks and sign endless declarations with faulty pens, endured the jeers of drunken Republicans, and grasped dozens of dirty, sweaty, and sticky hands--all with barely a bathroom break.

He’s probably “worked” more in the last 9 days than the last 9 years combined.

He’ll need a month to recover.

He has had some mobility issues lately. Perhaps that played a role in the decision.

I also think it would be strange for the Pope to attend. I realize we're 700ish years on from Henry VIII's break with Rome, but it's still a break that meant something and has repercussions to this day - i.e. - the monarch is the head of the Anglican church and not the Pope. And while we are all very ecumenical these days I don't think the Catholic Church has ever officially recognized the schism as valid.

Perfectly suitable for the Vatican to send high-level representatives, but not the Pope.

Didn’t one of the Queens kill Catholics or Protestants? Isn’t that where the term Bloody Mary came from?

Today I learned that there is such a thing as a ‘drum horse’

I hope they still come out to the balcony for Trooping the Colour. Nice link to the past.

They have already way scaled back the balcony at TTC. This year was just the Queen, Charles, Camilla, and the Cambridge Family. From now on will be the same, minus the Queen. Eventually Charlotte and Louis will get dropped for George’s wife and children.

Not if they stay and do royal duties.

That would be Henry VIII’s daughter with Catherine of Aragon, Queen Mary. She was very, very Catholic and therefore got the name ‘Bloody Mary’ from her treatment of Protestants.

I don’t know because I watched PBS/BBC. I wanted British coverage.

I thought the same thing! It sounds so fake.

She needs to be fired. So annoying and fake.

Couldn't agree more. This spectacle has taken up way too much air time. I really hope this is the beginning of the end of the ridiculous institution that is the British Monarchy.

LOL based on the funeral alone, it's clear that's not happening any time soon.

My hope is we don't have to hear from you complaining about it.

Just go away already!

Huh? I ate it up. I was saying, judging by the extreme, EXTREME popularity of the Queen, based on the funeral alone, the monarchy clearly isn't going away anytime soon. I'm not complaining. I like the institution and the people.

I think the Queen holds a special place in their hearts because she has been around so long. They are watching history and want to be part of it. Charles does not have the respect of the British people the way the Queen did. I think reforms in the monarchy will be made, but it will happen at a slow pace - over the course of 50+ years.

To be fair, there were also a whole bunch of Protestant monarchs that killed Catholics (starting with her dad). That used to be the favored method of conflict resolution—if you disagreed with someone, you killed them and took their stuff. Henry got a lot of land that way!

Well we broke from England too and the Bidens still went.

Joe Biden isn't head of a religious denomination that still maintains the state church is illegitimate. It's not the same.

I agree. I think the crown should have been buried with her. Charles can get a new one.

The lack of even a scintilla of knowledge of history on this thread is mind boggling! If you had read a newspaper or read news on the Internet since her death on Sept. 8, every single aspect of her funeral has been covered and infinitum!

The crown does not belong to her. It is Crown property. The Crown Jewels are not the personal property of the monarch.

+1
Totally agree.
Poster above your comment “stuff on top.” Too much!

Who said there wasn't a big to do? If you mean why it wasn't on TV and the internet 24/7 in 1952, I am not sure I can help with that.

Check out this article - the amount of to do seems remarkably similar:
