They weren't with the coffin during the procession from Westminster to Windsor -- my guess is they were quickly whisked to somewhere to stop, eat, drink, use the bathroom, and have a few moments out of the cameras before they they rejoined the procession outside Windsor. And at least this service is much shorter and they largely just have to sit and watch.

They were all in cars from westminster to windsor. I was watching the kids. they were on the entire time. no break.

I think this is also part of the different parenting style in America. Children can handle an hour or two ceremony in Europe without a snack.

No need to tear down American children. My kids could also go an hour without snacks! Maybe you were speaking from experience? If so, don't generalize please.

You must be new to DCUM. Desperately finding ways to ensure their children don’t go two hours without stuffing their faces is a regular theme.

For England it is God Save the King. America used the same music for My Country this of thee.

Thank you, Captain Obvious. That was the joke.

It was 'God Save the King' but carry on.

Oh my God. That sound was the joke whooshing over your head.

Carry on.

I think I missed something: why did they walk a long way with the coffin and then put it in a hearse to drive it somewhere?

The new Princess of Wales should share her secret on how to have well-mannered children and it should be mandatory reading for all American parents!

Agree, the children were exemplary. Princess Charlotte even knew how to smooth her coat beneath her to sit on it without crushing it, as she took her seat in the car leaving the chapel. Many an adult does't know that.

Not to be contrarian though--OK, it's definitely contrarian--I wish they would retire the title Prince of Wales. It's rooted in centuries of subjugation of the Welsh. Titles based on actual landholdings (like Duke of Cornwall or Duke of Westminster) or on landless honors (like Earl of Wessex) are one thing, but Prince of Wales isn't that. Yes, we have relatives in Wales, and they find it an annoyed eye-roll at best, and truly offensive at worst.

Point noted. But if the position of Prince of Wales didn’t exist, how many in the world would even know there was a place called Wales?

Congratulations. You made the dumbest statement in this thread and that’s impressive.

One of the British reporters sniffed at her lack of a hat. And it’s time for the messy blonde hair to get a proper cut.

Her little girl bow looked ridiculous. I have no problem with her style in general, but this was an occasion to represent the US with dignity.

She lacks style and class.

Dr. Jill Biden has class. Your opinion does not count.

I was just thinking, I hope there were some granola bars in those cars.

Good thing the royal children are not the offspring of DCUM Moms, who are convinced that their progeny will wither and die on the vine if they don’t have a snack every 2-3 hours.
again…. It was way longer than this. I started watching at 6am and stopped around noon. That was 11am-5pm in England. If you think the kids didn’t have lunch or a snack during that time you are kidding yourself.

Some of us *have* better jobs and can set our own schedules. Sorry you’re an 8:00-5:00 wage slave. Must be hard.

And you?

I have a job. Worked a 10 hour day, and am home spending 15 minutes on 'my websites' before I tend to my home.

Do you want a medal or something? Here. Here is your prize.

They aren’t asking for a medal. They’re responding to an idiot saying “Some of you all need jobs” because people are discussing the Queen’s funeral.

The funeral is over. Go back to work.

It is strange they delay it so long. Elizabeth waited - what - 15 months?

Once again, all was explained in mind numbing detail in print and on air. There is a period of mourning. The new king's coronation will probably be in summer of 2023. This delay gives him a chance to get used to his new responsibilities and gives the country time to get used to a new monarch.

Listen and learn. Read and learn..

I’m well aware and I guarantee I’ve read more books on BRF history than you have. I still think it’s strange for someone to be King/Queen for over a year and then we “crown” them the thing they have already been for quite a while.

It's almost kinda like those couples who elope then months later come back and have the big reception for their friends.

I doubt KC3 will have his coronation this year. It's getting too close to the holiday season to have another big event like a coronation. Originally, I thought he might have it early next year but then I didn't factor in the weather. I'm sure they want it to happen when weather is somewhat nice. So my guess will be late spring (but then rain...) or late summer.

I’m not disagreeing what WILL happen, I’m just arguing I think it’s silly. I understand my opinion on the matter is irrelevant. I’m curious how Trooping the Colour works with a new monarch. It’s to celebrate their birthday, but it was always held in June despite the Queen’s birthday being in April. Will they skip it next year in lieu of the coronation? Or combine them?

They probably have the kids a snack in the cars. Agreed that European parents don’t pump their kids full of snacks as often as American parents do.

I can see them combining them.

I do think Trooping the Color will remain in June for the forseeable future. KC3's birthday is in November. Who wants to have Trooping the Color in November? He'll keep it in June for weather related purposes.

Then William's birthday is already in June so that lines up nicely. George's birthday is end of July. By that point, they may move Trooping the Color to July or just keep it in June.

He deserves to have a proper ceremony and the Brits (and the world) love the pageantry. It’s a celebration and beginning of a new era. It’s also tacky and insensitive to crown him just as he lost his parent, he needs time and space to grieve.
