Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS)
I was there and all PPs who are contributing have been accurate. Which part do you disagree with? |
At last night’s meeting Michelle Reid absolutely did not say she told Coch he could come back in April and then changed her mind as is being written on here. |
Yes, she did. She said they met in April and it was her plan to bring him back in September when she thought the probation was over. That's why they hadn't posted the job until now, even though 5 principal spots had already been open and filled for next year. Parents were upset Navy had potentially missed out on the best candidates already due to the delay. The rumor piece came out in the meeting with the school board member. She said Reid had wanted him to return and people in the audience said he was told he was returning up until Tuesday, when she changed her mind because of the probation piece. Rumor is he got a phone call from Reid the night before the meeting. |
| I still don't understand how there was so much confusion about the probation until last week. I call BS on that. I am not a lawyer and it was pretty clear to me he would be on probation for one year based on the date the deal was reached. I can't help thinking there is more that factored into her decision making than she shared, and this is just an excuse. |
I call either BS or complete and total incompetence. Either they think we are all idiots or we should be scared that the lunatics have taken over the asylum. |
| So is his contract not being renewed as a principal or just not at that school? Can he be a teacher or something else? |
| How can anyone want this man back at an elementary school? |
If his license is up-to-date, he could. |
No where in that statement did she admit she told Coch he could come back. |
My guess is his contract is not being renewed with FCPS. He’s out. He could move over to Loudoun maybe. |
+1 also I doubt she actually told Coch it was her plan to bring him back. I’m sure she left him hanging until recently. Because of the uncertainty, I bet Coch told Marotta so he went off and found another job. |
| This whole mess is Coch’s fault. He should have immediately resigned after his sentencing so they could hire someone else. Because he didn’t, they couldn’t release him from his contract legally until June. And they couldn’t list the position until his contract expired. Stop blaming Reid and others for Coch’s actions which caused this mess in the first place. It’s mind boggling how so many people thought he could come back after this. |
This is a good point. Resigning would have been the right thing to do even though it’s a hard decision. Way too much wishful thinking going on among certain teachers/staff and PTO parents. I’m sure people encouraged him not to resign and pushed for him to be able to come back. He knew how long his probation would last and should have resigned at that time if not sooner. Someone with more integrity would have done so. I understand that it’s really hard when someone we respect and admire and enjoy working with makes a huge mistake. But we have to live in the real world where terrible actions have terrible consequences. This could have been resolved months ago had he and everyone else just seen the writing on the wall. |
If it’s true that they couldn’t post the job until his contract was up, this seems to be the crux. It’s not about Reid. Her hands were tied until his contract was up. What a mess Coch made for the school. |
| I can't believe the Navy population wants him back. He doesn't belong in a school. His character is flawed. This is the right decision by Reid. Bravo. |
