I think many staff wants him back but not most of the parents.

Why did staff like him so much?

In general, staff like principals who allow them to basically do what they want and who don’t hold them accountable. That’s why Navy has some really bad teachers that have gone unchecked for years. Hopefully some will leave at the end of the year. Also, the grade level teams don’t plan and collaborate well because Coch allows all upper grades (regardless of best practice for kids) to departmentalize. Departmentalization makes it easier for the teachers to teach (they only have 1-2 subjects) but then teachers are pigeon holed to one subject and have no experience or idea how to teach any other subjects. They also don’t have someone to plan units with. If you get a teacher that isn’t great, your kid could be stuck watching videos in social studies or science. If classes dis not switch at 4th, for example, science and social studies could be taught at the same time in the schedule by all the grade level teachers. Teachers could then work together to plan some good units or activities that all classes would do. There hasn’t been a sense of working together as a team at each grade level due to departmentalization. Each class does what they want.

Because he didn’t, they couldn’t release him from his contract legally until June. And they couldn’t list the position until his contract expired. Stop blaming Reid and others for Coch’s actions which caused this mess in the first place. It’s mind boggling how so many people thought he could come back after this.

This is a good point. Resigning would have been the right thing to do even though it’s a hard decision. Way too much wishful thinking going on among certain teachers/staff and PTO parents. I’m sure people encouraged him not to resign and pushed for him to be able to come back. He knew how long his probation would last and should have resigned at that time if not sooner. Someone with more integrity would have done so. I understand that it’s really hard when someone we respect and admire and enjoy working with makes a huge mistake. But we have to live in the real world where terrible actions have terrible consequences. This could have been resolved months ago had he and everyone else just seen the writing on the wall.

Yes exactly. These people have made and will make it harder now for Navy to attract a new, good principal. Will they give the new principal a chance or will a certain parent still be asking parents in the community to write letters on Coch’s behalf next year in another attempt to bring him back?

No. He’s already accepted an AP job at another school.

Ok Sherlock Holmes...

?? Marotta is going to be an AP at Bull Run. That's a known fact.

Thank you! I just ignored the PP idiot who wrote Sherlock Holmes.

We are all privy to this so why restate it? They should promote marotta to principal instead of letting him leave to another school is what I meant. If you can't conclude that, then maybe you are the idiot.

You have no idea how the system works. Marotta is an AP. He is not in the pool of candidates to be principal. So no, he can not just be promoted to principal of Navy. Especially after he’s accepted a position at another school. Idiot.

The inner workings of FCPS's promotions are not common knowledge to everyone. You are the idiot for thinking that everyone must either work for FCPS and know this or maybe you have nothing better to do than read up on this stuff and gossip about it. The audacity of someone trying to put an idea out there that doesn't go with your rigid way of thinking...

Why didn’t you ask the superintendent and Douglas Tyson about making Marotta principal? See what they say 😀

Well I guess I was right. Hate to say it, but I told you so. Marotta is not being promoted to principal of Navy in any way, shape or form. You all were delusional.

Bring him back!
I like having dedicated teacher for each subject.

Not happening. His contract wasn’t renewed. Sorry.

Hello...there is a teacher shortage so beggars can't be choosers. While I agree that some teachers are better than others, I can't say I want any of them to leave because we might not have anyone to replace them.

I only see 3 on the list now. Doesn’t seem that dire.

I have confidence they will find replacements. Fresh teachers will be good for Navy.

This. I am shocked that people would him back after this. I don't want my kids thinking it's okay if you drink and drive and damage someone's property (and could have damaged a person if there had been one there) and there are no consequences. It's pretty sick that so many of you think that's an okay lesson to teach your kids.

Have you thought about the fact that some of those vacancies are teachers who were concerned he might come back.

+1 why is the Navy community (staff and parents) so damn scared of having a new principal? Is it because some of them had an “in” with Coch and got preferential treatment, and are now afraid they won’t have that with the new principal? Maybe the new principal will be even better! And we will all be on equal footing now at least.
