The lawsuit against Royal Caribbean/toddler death

Anonymous
I doubt RC even offered a settlement, it’s such a clear situation and a settlement would set a horrible precedent. I can’t help but wonder, if this thing makes it as far as a jury trial, if they’d even be able to seat a jury since the entire country has pretty much decided grandpa was negligent.

Wonder if the grandpa had motive and this was intentional. Hate to think this is true but not impossible.

Did you see the video? It’s not out of the question that it was intentional. Horrifying.

I agree. The denial stage of grief can’t last forever. They’re in a protective fantasy that maybe could have lasted without video proof. But at some point the footage has to burst their bubble.

As outraged as I am at the grandfather I do still feel bad for the parents. I don’t think it’s a money grab. I think having your child dropped out a window by a relative you trust would make your mind rationalize things that the peanut gallery here on DCUM can’t truly comprehend.

That was the case with the woman who threw a toddler off the walkway at Tyson’s years ago. She was mad at her son in law-so she killed his kid (her own granddaughter).

I don’t think it was that type of motive, but I wonder if he was trying to cover up something else.

I apologize if this has been addressed before, but did the family’s lawyer not have access to this video? I can’t understand how he would have agreed to take the case if he had seen it.

They're playing the chicken game to see who blinks first.

I don’t think public opinion favors grandpa.

In that particular case the woman was immediately denounced by her daughter and son-in-law who testified against her.

Another Newsflash: f#cked up people do intentionally horrible things. No one is a blathering idiot for suggesting this as a possibility. It very well happens.

I've wondered if Grandpa was ticked off about being put on child duty. Maybe he was aggravated that his family was going to expect him to spend his relaxing cruise vacation running after a toddler.
He might be one of those people who doesn't want to speak up about something like that in fear that it would make him the "bad guy" in the family.

However, the parents' seem very intent on this lawsuit and getting money from RC. The speed in which they contacted that lawyer (the day after Chloe died) and began talking about suing RC is mind boggling to me.

I don't understand this family.

The video makes it look premeditated.

With all the legal wrangling going on, the family is not going to be able to move forward & thus heal.

It all was simply a tragic accident.

It's negligence.

An idiot is someone who doesn’t consider all the possibilities—did you see the video? His actions are very strange.

I don’t know, but he still may have taken the case.

It is not a lot of work to file a complaint. You have a tragic result against a deep pocket. The chance of a decent size settlement certainly exists because in many states (and to a lesser, but real, degree in the federal system) it can be hard to get a case thrown out before trial.

And even if the case is a loser, the publicity alone is probably worth it for the lawyer.
