Girl Raped at Rockville HS

The US has to many children living in poverty and other unfortunate situations. We should help our own before accepting problems from other countries.

Careful, you are starting to sound like a Trump voter. You might get slammed on this board. P.S. I agree with you, don't tell anyone.

AGREED!
My 5th grader has an almost 14 year old in hr class & she's 11!

There's something definitely wrong with a school system that allows that kind of craziness.

Where is this happening? Crazy! Write your Councilmembers too - BoE may not do much.

I just did. What's astounding to me, is that MCPS, nor the BoE, nor the Council, nor the County Exec, has made a statement. I don't care about the illegal immigrant thing so much as I care about the safety of students in MCPS. This happened Thursday morning, so they had all day to come out with a statement and instead... nothing.

More astounding is the sound of crickets from MCPD Chief Manger's office about the MS 13 problem in the county.

Fairfax Chief was very vocal about the problem in his county after the gang murders. Manger remains silent.

Exactly. What I've learned from DCUM is that it's racist for middle class people to demand crime control and safe schools, but it's de rigueur for educated liberals to move to segregated white enclaves.

Pp was correct. How many children are suffering from the legacy of discrimination that their ancestors went through. How many people in middle America are being left behind. I think they come first. BTW I am a republican who refused to vote. However, I support Trump on his wall.
Anonymous
Another Democrat who does not support trump or the wall, but who supports moco getting their act together and stop pandering to the segment who is here illegally, while the kids in the precious W schools don't have to deal with the problems.

We had gang fights weekly at my former HS. They often happened by my room, as it connected our wing to ESOL. Those who had "established" themselves by pissing on their territory resented anyone new coming into town. So the gang warfare that started in the 'hood continued in the school.

fun times

During that time, my daughter was in private b/c we lived in the area.

We've since moved, and she's in public. so far so good - But once the schools can no longer handle a growing population of challenging kids b/c the state prevents us from disciplining kids, both of my kids will go to private.

I will teach in the roughest schools, but i will not use my kids as guinea pigs to prove any point.

This is the shocking thing - the number of Public school teachers sending their own kids to private. I was thinking of moving to Rockville - so much for that.

Another MCPS teacher here, I won't name the school or area, but my children are in private school. But, I cannot afford Potomac, Bethesda or any other $600,000 home. DH and I would rather spend money on experience/education than fancy things (houses, cars. etc.) I absolutely believe that all children deserve a quality education. It's why I am still teaching in MCPS rather than going to private. With that being said, I will NOT allow my children to be a social experiment. MoCo parents have been sheeple (sheep people), I may get a lot of flack for this, and I don't care! The middle class has been led, by the affluent in the county to accept "diversity from poverty stricken places". Yet, these same people buy into the wealthiest areas possible or send their children to private school. Leaving the rest of us to fend for ourselves against the county board and politics. Before you get off on your liberal high horse and gallop off into Liberal Land, I am Black. I appreciate diversity and believe diversity is important, however, as other pp's have said, you can enroll in a public high school as long as you are 19 and under. I have had 18-19 yr old students in the ninth grade. Their parents pay coyotes to help them across the border to come to America for the opportunity. Unfortunately, while their parents are scraping by for opportunities for their children, the children could care less. I have had children from South American countries tell me: "I don't know why I'm here, I miss being in my country and I'm fine with joining a gang."

So what do these children do when they reach MoCo with limited school experience and English? They find people who think like them and join the gangs that they would have joined back in their home country. I don't agree that we should just take the younger children. I believe that would tear many families apart, instead, we need to deport families together and allow them to apply legally to be here as a family, just like my Ethiopian, Somalian, Caribbean, Tawainese and other Asiatic students. Families build strong communities, broken families equal broken communities. No amount of schooling, non-profits, churches or wrap around services can fix that.

This. Plus one million.

Not so true any longer, I know a lot of people think this is true but I invite you to come to that area one morning and witness the number of children at Apartment and Condo bus stops that weren't there just two years ago. There is more low income housing and government subsidized housing in those areas than you are aware, it is just hidden better. This hasn't happened at a W school yet, but it most likely will given the change I have seen in the student body.

Please show me the low income housing in the Whitman Cluster, Wooten or Churchill to......

Everyone here has 1) assumed they are guilty; 2) assumed they are illegal; and 3) assumed that they committed a criminal act because undocumented people are more likely to be criminals. None of these three points has been proven. If they were white, no one would be blaming their culture or assuming guilt.

Did you read all the articles? Did you see the police report? Did you hear the judge say the attached was a flight risk?

This is not about 'not being white'. You are projecting your own prejudice here.

This. Let's stop pretending that the correlation between Central American immigrants and the rise of MS-13 here is a mystery. It's not racist, it's a fact, and pretending the issue away will not reduce crime rates. Also, statistically, the victim was likely of minority race and she deserves as much outrage as if this had happened at a W school.

Exactly. She likely was Latina. And what if it's discovered that her family is illegal? I can just here Trump saying, "We should not pay for her to recover in this country." It is so f*#^*d up. Obama would have deported and it would not have even made the papers.

Unlikely she was Latina. According to the police report, at times she stated they spoke in Spanish between each other (the 2 perpetrators) and if she knew Spanish, she'd instead state what they said.

For those who prefer Twitter:

@RogerBerliner - head of MoCo Council
@RicePolitics - Craig Rice -- head of education on Council

I believe BOE also has a Twitter account, but I thikn the council member's twitter accounts are actually read by them.

Thanks PP. Yes , it's time for us to start demanding some answers. Moco has gone way too far with their liberal policies at the expense of the middle class. I've been a lifelong moco resident who was once dedicated to this area and mcps, but this has gone way too far and more and more I feel like this is not a place that cares about people like us. I'm a legal immigrant by the way.
