What does that mean--as it relates to this case?

Have you followed the other recent arrests of local teachers/coaches molesting students?

What were the other cases?

If you want to search this site, you'd probably find some news links.

The point is that this perverted criminal is getting special media treatment imo, and others on this thread. You may disagree.

This report says "a number of parents have come forward with letters of support for Pena".

WTF, are you kidding me? Please tell me it ain't so.

Really, in support of pena? O-A parents-help us out, why the support at this point? I could underdstand in a murky situation, where there could be the question of a fabricated story. But pena CONFESSED, there is a photo of his penis on a kid's phone...all support should be going to the family of the victim and all the kids at o-a who must be so confused.
just does not make sense to me.

Exactly. Someone please explain this...

I am a OA parent, and haven't heard any parent supporting Mr. Pena. My only guess is that the support was the very first day when there was no clear information about the case and people were shocked and in denial.

That may be - but his lawyer today said he supportive letters from several Ouster parents per Channel 9'reporter. If parents did such a thing - and regret it - they need to try to talk to the prosecutor and rescind.

What you apparently don't understand is, by the time the police are actually arresting someone, 99% of the time there is MORE THAN ENOUGH evidence to arrest. The truly sad thing is how much evidence it usually takes to get law enforcement to actually act. I worked in this field in a past career and it is shocking how obvious the abuse can be (once it's been discovered and children have been interviewed) and yet without damning evidence like video or pics it's shocking how much it can take to get law enforcement to act.

By the time someone is actually being arrested, especially someone like this, it's dramatically likely it's true. Also likely that only the tip of the iceberg is known. I've seen cases move forward where so many of the victims' allegations werent' even included, for various reasons.

I agree with the above poster. This is only the tip of the iceberg with Mr. Flutter Eyelashes.

Are you saying that Oyster parents who are also journalists are helping to bury this story? If that's what you're trying to say, just say it.

Are OA parents WaPo journalists? Anyway the WP has been very shy to disparage any DCPS since endorsing Rhee then Kaya-- ad Nauseam. What is a more newsworthy Local story in education right now-- this. Rhee's kids then several of the Fenty admin were famously Oyster parents; Pena was awarded medals for being such a star; Monica Aguirre the IA principal on his watch was a Rhee pal and wife of DPR chief Jesus Aguirre while he got away with molesting the boy during CLASS; now thanks to all the special treatment he clearly is in denial to even want bail and allow parents to write love letters to the judge as if he believes himself he did nothing wrong. Where is the Examiner when we need it. Cover up like the cheating scandals.

I don't understand why the school principal is making reference to the perpetrator coming back to the school. Does anyone know?

...but "not while the children are present."
What does that mean?

The principal probably made that statement just in case GP got out on bail. This is what his lawyer tried to argue yesterday.

Obviously OA parents DID NOT write letters on GP's behalf once he admitted to the crime. These letters were either written previously OR on the day he was arrested when everyone was in disbelief, before he confessed.

Please don't jump to conclusions.

What more is there for the WP to say? Nothing unusual like, he was hired without background check, or admin tried to sweep this under the rug.

Surely you must know how routine it is for WaPo to pass along the police phone number for other victims to come forward. But not here. Why? As several professionals (related to underage sex abuse) have stated, it's highly unlikely that this particular boy was Pena's first victim. But this may be the only one to have proof with the penis photo. As already said, by the time the police make an arrest, stuff has been going on for awhile. Adults typically don't want to believe their super star pretty boy is a very bad man.

WaPo hasn't made a peep since the initial arrest when he may have still been presumed innocent. yet they fill plenty of space on Kaya's "enrichment" plans and other nonsense.

Does the Washington Post have an ombudsperson? If so, this might be a good thing to draw to his or her attention.

It's really too bad that they got rid of this position:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/style/post-ombudsman-will-be-replaced-by-reader-representative/2013/03/01/c50c86d2-82c3-11e2-b99e-6baf4ebe42df_story.html

I haven't been able to find out how to contact the "reader representative" on the Post site.
