The fact he was so capable of keeping this a secret for so long, and happily going on his merry way as if all was normal suggests there easily could be more victims, and if there are he should be punished to the full extent.

If and when that time happens, you will absolutely be the first to say "I told you so" with a smile on your face. Until that glorious moment for you , stop speculating on something you have no facts to back up.

What's your constant obsession with him? Can you admit he's scum?

There is no obsessive behavior on my part ... others however have stooped to the level of Fox News and feel it necessary to report "facts and ideas" which are not based in reality for this case. I get it that you hate him and you project yourself in the situation as a victim. Just focus on the facts and stop trying to create hysteria.

I, for one, do in fact hate what this trusted teacher did. I hope you do too, no?

The fact that you would insinuate anything otherwise is exactly why I would prefer to you as gross. I just hate the drama and reality show quality to some of the people on this thread. Some real winners

Related to this victim. Really.

Not sure how your opinion is relevant here, unless the above quote is in fact wrong.

Relevant as a lawyer.

Please, if you are a victim's family who is reading this, know that the plea deal does not cover what happened to you.

Contact the police and / or the U.S. Attorney's office, who will say the same and help you.

1. What kind of attorney are you?
2. This isn't a common component of a plea deal, is it? ...That prosecutors agreed not to seek any additional charges that predate the agreement.

I didn't know that Pena's admission of guilt was actually part of the plea deal. That wasn't exactly how the news reported it.

Many thanks for the clarification. Very helpful

Peculiar that there's no indication of this for the public or other potential victims.

I think the poster above is still charmed by this pedophile. The hysteria was created by the perpetrator, not posters on DCUM. Why are you so offended that this topic about this individual who has admitted to these crimes causes alarm in a parent community forum? Why are you so interested in tamping things down, he is GUILTY. The more questions the better, so get over your issues with this being a big story. It IS a big story.

Let's ask Julie Lopez.

I'm also a lawyer, and this plea deal does not cover other victims. By law, it cannot. I am , however, astounded at the speed of this plea deal (it hasn't even been a month!). The victim's family must have wanted it over quickly--that is something prosecutors weigh heavily. Also, it's worth noting that the constitution generally prohibits multiple trials for the same crime against the same victim. That language in the plea deal about being unable to prosecute him for other crimes is merely inartful wording by the author. Generally speaking, once a defendant pleads guilty, to crimes against a particular victim, you can't charge him a second time for the same offenses against the same victim.

I think we should ask Julie Lopez to write an article about it in the Washington Post, that would make everyone happy. Or perhaps better in the Washington Times and shame the Post for not covering the case.

This thread has reached the state where I can't tell who is being serious and who is being ironic.

I had not realized it was in fact The Washington Post who named Pedophile Pena as "Teacher of the Year" in 2011.

A bit embarrassing, to say the least.
No wonder they're refusing to report all the facts.

The Post already shamed itself with choosing Pena for their teacher of the year.

It shows poor editorial judgement for a Dc newspaper not to report in a local case about a DC teacher working in a DCPS school sexual abusing a DC kid. Too sad.

Yes. And the fact that they did not know this information when they gave him these honors is ridiculous. Everyone knows they should screen all teachers and high performers for their history of sexual abuse.

What trash! Why didn't they ask him if he was a sexual predator before they handed out awards for his excellence? I can't believe it! And then, on top of it, the WaPo doesn't even put on the front page that they awarded him. Of course they should make this their front page news so everyone knows he was hired and celebrated and nobody did a background check or lie detector test to see if he was a pedophile. The outrage! I would even imagine that if we started looking, we would find a history of this that nobody paid any attention to. I have never heard of somone getting an award and then find out they did something bad. Who is screening pedophiles?! Now that I think of, I have never been asked that question in a job interview.

Some of these posters are angry their need for a Pena tarring and feathering won't happen. The story's over and now they have to continue on with their boring lives.

If they truly cared about the school and kids, they'd want this story to die. Imagine being the accuser or his family and seeing this in the news or on every single front page. They need to be able to heal. So does the school. Frankly, I think WaPo is being very responsible by not re victimizing the child and subjecting him to a tabloid circus. I'd never come forward if I were a young kid after seeing such a sensitive story blow up, the teacher all over the news day in and out for something so horrible, and whispers growing louder about who the accuser must be.

But alas. WaPo and I are thinking like adults who want to protect children. Some of these posters are thinking like unfulfilled people who need excitement in their lives.
