What do we think will happen on Monday?

Capital weather gang just said dusting to an inch. With the current situation, that can certainly cause a delay.

What are you taking about? Mine is totally clear.

Maybe you need to read actual forecasters like CWG instead of inaccurate apps.

Here is what CWG just posted at 1:30pm
* Eyes on our next snow chance Tuesday night into Wednesday *

A weak weather impulse is expected to slip by to our south late Tuesday night into Wednesday, offering a chance of snow. This impulse won’t be particularly energetic nor will it be able to draw much moisture from the Gulf of Mexico or Atlantic Ocean. As such, the ceiling for snowfall is limited.

Model forecasts for amounts range from no snow to a few inches. The models that show no snow suggest the system will be too weak and too far to the south for precipitation. Those that give us up to a few inches suggest it will take an optimal track for snow in our area — passing through Virginia.

Here are the range of snowfall forecasts for the Beltway area:

American: 3 to 4 inches
German: 2 to 3 inches
American AI: 1-inch
UKMet, European and European AI: Dusting
Canadian model: None

We lean toward a dusting to an inch as most probable, with the chance of more than an inch just one in three.

Temperatures, in the 20s to low 30s, should be cold enough for accumulation if snow materializes.

As has been discussed previously, most busses are full already and don’t have the extra capacity to add another few hundred kids.

The point is that communities need more time. Everyone in my neighborhood is shoveling but our cars keep getting re-buried by plows and the work of breaking through this ice is frankly exhausting and a multi-day endeavor. I appreciate Reid’s email about communities coming together but the work she’s asking people to do is not feasible in 2 days. The ice isn’t going anywhere but we can at least wait until more progress is made on clearing roads and sidewalks.

You are still seeing plows? Are you just off a main road? We were plowed once on Sunday and at this point I’m fine with that. There are just piles of ice blocks now along the side of the road from people digging out and if a plow came by at this point…😡

Pretty sure the PP was hyperbolic fiction.
Nope I live near a high school so they keep sending plows down our road and burying us in

Not sure what the plows are moving since it's packed ice, not snow. So anyway, yeah I guess?

In any event, they can't wait for the county to entirely unfreeze and clear. They can wait a couple more days or even a week. But not for the county to clear.

No message has told you school cannot open until the entire county is clear. It’s been made obvious that the opening hinges simply on a majority of the bus/walking routes being safe enough to navigate.

Sure, it does. And that's where equity comes in. Be ready to go back sooner than later. Use this weekend to workshop your own solution.

Some staff members at my school are planning on shuttling from a nearby shopping center.

There is 4 feet of ice to get to the bus stop where the sidewalk is all ice. I don’t know how a bus could safely even stop at our bus stop. It is normally a two lane road with cars parked on the street. Now it is just a giant mountain of ice.

Just came back from the grocery store. There could certainly be more parking spaces. The turns into the center are a little tight--but doable if you take turns. Not sure I'd want my kid driving.

School should be closed. They won't be ready.

They should’ve posted this question on the TJ entrance exam. How do you remove X quantity of ice in Y time with Z resources? 😂

Has Reid gotten her butt out to shovel the bus stops yet? With her bodyguards?

It’s inconsistent across the county. My neighborhood has been plowed the width of a car and there are no sidewalks, so children will have to walk on the narrow road and stand there to wait for the bus. It is inherently dangerous. I tried shoveling snow/breaking the ice on the road in front of my house, but it is rock hard.

Is there any possible way to pivot to virtual or do kids just stay home with no education until we can all figure out how to get them back to school? I guess PWCS has hinted at virtual, not sure about other districts. What is different between them and us that they can stand up virtual and we can't? I know people don't like it, but it's better than nothing for days on end. My kids bring their laptops home to charge, but I know it's not consistent across schools. Seems like they could have had kids bring home devices just in case knowing that the storm was coming and likely to be pretty disruptive. The inability to do virtual may be what gets FCPS to open sooner than other districts that have apparently figured out how to implement it.

At what point do they begin adding days at the end of the school year? I know we have more built into the calendar than MCPS but I don’t know the specifics.

I’d love this to be something future decision makers consider when they insist on calendars with an embarrassingly low number of five day weeks.

They're not going to be "ready" for weeks. That's not an answer.

Yeah, but we have a 6-7 week summer. I’ve heard we have 10 snow days, and we have only taken 3 so far, but like you, I don’t want a longer school year.

My kid's FCPS school sent everyone home with laptops and snow day assignments.
