My child was standing there minding her own business while I was talking to the neighbor. She did nothing. Dog ran over and knocked her to the ground.

Of course you are blaming a two year old! The nerve of the exsisting.

Whew! The point flew right over your head

Ok, please explain. Why is it when a golden retriever knocks over a toddler it is called "gregarious" but if a pit bull did so you would say "vicious?" Teaching basic proper dog manners at age 2 when they have been barely alive! Pray tell me what you have taught your babies when they are standing there and the huge dog comes full force and knocks your child over. Why don't you ask these owners why they have taught their dog "basic manners?"

And please stick to the topic at hand. Not bringing up a red herring. Thank you!

No, you were whining that a golden retriever knocked over your two year old. We were pointing out that pit bulls eat two year olds so your complaint was more than a little disingenuous. Plus you guys then blame the mauled/eaten children.

Interesting. Everything I say you turn negative. To me, I was informing not whining. The deed was done and nothing can undo it.

And no, I have never, ever blamed the children. I blame the adults who have not trained or cared for their dogs. I have never read any supporter of pit bulls say the children were at fault. If the children did anything it is the full responsibility of the aduts.

Well, yes, dear the point is rather that it will tear criminals limb from limb.

Do you say the same for German Shepherds, Dear?

No, because even their layperson owners can control them, Sweetie. Statistically speaking, Honey.

What I would like to know is why when German Shepherds or any other dog attacks you blame the people who own them ( rightly so) But when it is a pit bull you say it's the dog's dna.

This cannot be true. Why not blame the owners for ALL attacks.

Because plenty of supposedly loving household pits who are treated well by their owners and with no bite history maim and kill people. When another breed attacks there is often a different backstory of poor ownership/abuse.

And also I’d be fine blaming all owners for all attacks. Are you willing to do jail time and pay HEAVY damages if your pet bites someone even if there were no warning signs and you were supposedly doing all the right things as an owner?

Or do you know that deep down your dog could eat a toddler so you would never agree to strict liability for your dog’s actions?

"Supposedly" that's the main point. Things can appear good but not be. Consider the " perfect" family but mom or dad is an alcholic.

Same with animals. You never know unless you are living in that house.

I don't answer hypothical questions.

Okay well if we can’t know which bad owners will cause their pit bull to eat a small child, then maybe we should heavily regulate ownership of these dogs and require insurance.

If you’re a good owner and your dog won’t hurt anyone, then that should be no problem!

We can certainly tell the obvious bad dog owners...dogs keot in chains in backyard, starved and made to fight. Let's start there.

Police do this every once in awhile before they quietly retire the pits with no fanfare. It's a well meaning tale as old as time but they inevitably fail as working dogs, often at the expense of great injury. So...yawn, good luck with that folks!

That is not a working dog. It's a publicity adoption to encourage people to get dogs from the pit/mix heavy county shelter. I guess the police in the building will train it to drop on command and not bite/hold leash when walking. It's a pet but they should use the sausage and pizza as training tools not random treats.

What's wrong with getting dogs adopted?

Actually they say 'American bully' which is not a pit bull. Sounds like they don't know the breed.

Sad for the 15 year old and their family

That’s a pit bull.

Let’s not ignore the fact that another person, another child has been killed by these godawful dogs.

In the article I did not see a picture of the dogs in question. Are you saying that this is the dog that attacked or is it just a random picture? Here are my pictures!

Bully breed is completely different from a "pit bull" which is different from an "XL Bully" or an "American Staffordshire".

If you can't even identify the breed, you shouldn't be trying to cause alarm. It's like calling a Bassett Hound a Beagle.

If you are going to accuse a dog of something at the very least you should know if it is an actual "pit bull"

Yes, and a “pit bull” is any of the freakish dogs, likely descended from the British bull and terrrier, bred for fighting in a pit. Hence the moniker “pit bull.” It includes the American Pit Bull Terrier, Staffies and bullies.

In case anyone is reading this and wondering what the heck this side argument about the breeds that just mauled another child to death, pit bull enthusiasts are kind of like gun nuts. If you’ve ever had a pointless argument with a gun nut who gets tightly wound about nomenclature, but doesn’t mind that their beloved AR-15s are used to rip children in half, it’s the same type of argument. And the pit bull enthusiasts are hoping that we’ll argue their dumb point and it will mean that another couple of pit bulls didn’t destroy another child’s life.

But they did. Because pit bulls were bred to kill; that is their job and what they want to do. If a pit bull wants to maim, it will.
