I saw this too on another site. Thanks for posting, PP.

I simply don’t “trust” any dog.

And no, your dog is not your baby’s “big sister” or “big brother”. That thinking is really stupid.

Not so simple. Dogs are clearly a part of the family and they can also be smarter than your two year old human so they actually do take on a protective and guiding role in small family members lives. Obviously nobody is saying that they are human but there are definitely many behavior based on family roles and relationships that warrant such a comparison.

I disagree. Pets are animals, so I would never compare my dog to my child.

A dog literally played with a toddler for several hours and then killed him in Maryland. Your dog is not part of the family. Your dog is an animal and a pet.

No, a pit bull literally played with a toddler for several hours and then killed him in Maryland. A pit bull is a dog, but it’s not a family dog. A pit bull was bred to attack - other dogs, cats, bulls and horses. They were bred to ignore pain, like a horse kicking it repeatedly, for example, and keep coming back. They were bred to jump up and latch onto the face and not let go. You can read what surgeons feel about whether or not pit bulls should be in family homes.

Humans kill more other humans and animals than any pit bull. And yet we have these threads day after day. Humans kill more put bulls than they kill or harm us. And yet they are the villains in this story...interesting...

This is such a weird thing to say. When humans kill other humans, we put them in jail, or in some states they themselves get killed. Yet you want unpredictable murder machines to roam freely and with no consequence.

It sounds like you’re going down the “there are no bad dogs, only bad owners” road. So where’s the pit bull owner-supported legislation calling for fines for pit bulls found wandering, or the seizure of the dog if it happens repeatedly? Where are your demands that pit bull owners whose dogs kill other animals face prison time? I’ve never once seen you guys demand a life sentence for one of your dogs killing a person. I don’t take you seriously because you’ve said nothing serious.

Just think of all the adults and kids mauled and severely injured by pit bulls and it never makes the news. And other dogs killed by pit bulls. But a dog killed by a dog isn't something a reporter is going to pick up, unless it was maybe caught on video and became viral.

This one really kills me. Obviously killing an adult or child is more tragic, but honestly, I don't want to see my dogs ripped to shreds and killed for being in their presence and it is SHOCKINGLY common and not reported on at all. I have experienced so many just straining at the leash when out with my dogs and it's really scary when we are just...existing. There were 2 in my neighborhood growing up and they had to kill 6 dogs before they were put down. That's obscene. I don't care if it's so sweet with your family, if it's jumping fences, pulling from a leash, and going on murder sprees of innocent animals, it's not fit to live in dense areas. (Ironically also not fit for rural areas where there is livestock because they'll kill those too...)

You're just making stuff up and have no idea what you are talking about!

They should be held accountable but not treated any differently than any other homicide - how many people who kill other people end up with life sentences? Some, sure but most do not yet they are held accountable. The same should be true here but that has nothing to do with the breed, it should be for any dog owner.
