Does it have to be anything to me? One just doesn't see these types of threads for other sports in the area. This obsession with the high school lacrosse scene is reminiscent of Texas high school football. Why? |
This thread is pretty tame compared to the DA vs. ECNL soccer death match going on in Sports and Fitness. |
Same question can be asked of them |
What others said + many of us have kids who will likely play at the collegiate level. This area is still a hotbed for HS girl's and boy's lax. |
I thought NCS won the lower divsion (A) last year? No? Flint Hill won it? |
Probably it has to do with the long tradition of lacrosse as important in this area, especially in the privates. Lacrosse is Maryland's unofficial official sport (the official sport is jousting which younger me was sad to find didn't involve people hitting each other with long sticks on horseback -- in fact, lacrosse involves significantly more long stick contact than jousting). People are pretty into college lacrosse too, but this isn't the discussion board for that. Feel free to start the Private School Swimming Thread or whatever if you'd like. You won't see it on the front page long or often. |
NCS won the A tournament, but Flint Hill won the regular season and that's what determines the move up to AA. Bullis, Sidwell and NCS tied for 1st this year during the regular season, so the winner of the A tournament gets the grand prize ![]() |
I agree, the soccer scene is pretty brutal! We follow HS lax because there's so many great schools & players in this area. The games are interesting and many of the players go on to play in college. It's fun to follow. |
If anyone knows the result of the girls’ games late tonight, let us know! |
Lacrosse is the official Md state team sport. |
And, because both the private school world and the lacrosse world are very small and often intertwined, you usually know most of the players if your kid grew up playing. Its so much fun to see which kids you knew from U9 and U11 are still playing, fun to see the other parents you used to chat with on the side lines of youth games, fun to watch your kid's current club team mates compete on opposite sides during the Spring middle and high school seasons. You always know enough kids on every team to root for - even if you hope your kid's school will win. I have more than one kid, of both genders, who grew up playing lax so I know kids on every single school team in the area. |
Same here. We'll normally sit with our child's team but we certainly go visit the other team because we know so many parents! It is nice to see everyone and catch up! |
We are not a lacrosse family but I've become a regular follower of this thread. I appreciate the knowledge that is shared especially by the 2-3 people who are consistent with their informed opinions and unbiased analyses. |
