If he’d pay for it, sure. Still not clear to me why they didn’t extract a promise to fully fund another school from that weird company.

Little things like laws get in the way.

APS has a $40M+ budget shortfall. Spending $2M to rename a school is outrageous.

But I’m sure the old guard Dems in Arlington will put these fools up for re-election.

Not sure the two are related, but you’re not wrong about the de facto segregation. It’s kind of repulsive.

It's funny how many people think the de facto segregation is repulsive, yet none of those people would be supportive of trying to fix it if it involved their neighbors/schools. Arlington Forest is a prime example. Arlington liberals are some of the most hypocritical. They are supportive of diversity as long as they can stay in their segregated bubbles. This name change is meaningless. The white separatist mentality is still pervasive despite the fake "we're supportive of diversity" front.

Dude, don’t bring “white supremacy” into this. It undermines your argument. They are hypocrites and they suck, but they aren’t skin heads.

+1 The new left tactic is to label all adversaries as a Nazi. It's shelf life has expired and says more about them than anything else. You can recognize that low income POC as a whole don't bring a lot to the table in a school environment without being Mengele.

PP said "white separatist," not white supremacist. Words matter, as does reading comprehension. Their point stands: a lot of middle class and upper middle class liberals harp about "Trump is a Nazi," "diversity" and "racism," but they belie these words with their actions. They work their way up the ladder to make enough money to separate themselves from the lower-middle and working classes, especially lower-middle and working class minorities, and are intensely vigorous about maintaining a segregated status quo in the school system, yet have the audacity to tell everyone else they're racists for wanting to build a border wall, for example.

If you are a fan of diversity you can save a lot of money, and probably see your kids a lot more, by giving up your $1.5M+ home in North Arlington and living in a home off of Columbia Pike. But that would mean sending your kids to school with a bunch of lower-middle and working-class kids, especially minorities, and that's a bridge too far for these hypocrites.

Watched part of the SB meeting on this topic last night. Perhaps it was discussed before I started watching but Goldstein asked how much will the name change cost and NO ONE HAD AN ANSWER. Unbelievable.

More read out from the meeting last night, please! Weren't the name changes front and center?

I think the meeting started at 7 and I was not able to start watching until 8:30ish. I saw perhaps half an hour. At the point I started, Reid was going through the power point put together by staff or the committee, not sure, asking questions of a committee spokeswoman, the four W-L students on the committee and the W-L principal. His questions seemed thoughtful and it wasn't clear what new name he favored. He was concerned about name recognition and cost. No one had a clue about the cost and the principal said W-L letters and blue and grey colors are everywhere in the building so keeping those the same will mean the name change would cost less. A couple of the students on the committee also seemed thoughtful and articulate, one not so much. They all said that the students want to keep the "W-L". The students made it sound like the new name options were discussed a lot at the school with the student body but my DD, a 9th grader, disagrees and says she just heard lots of rumors. Talento also asked many questions and seems to have an agenda. For example, the 9th grade rep on the committee said that most students he spoke with did not know why the name had to be changed. She interpreted that to me the 9th graders were ignorant and need to be educated rather than the 9th graders wanting to keep the current name. She also said that she heard the students at W-L were told not to talk about the name change and all of them responded that was absolutely not true. O"Grady didn't ask any questions during the time I watched - just thanked the committee members. Hopefully someone who watched more than I did will chime in!

Same from my 10th grader. His take is that they were just told what the recommended name was (not asked for any input into the recommendation) and that the discussion among his peers is that changing the name is fine, yes keep the initials, but they hate Washington-Loving. Washington-Liberty is preferred.

Same with my W-L student. Please encourage your son to express his opinion to the SB; the students are most effected by the name change and are the ones who most have to deal with Washington-Loving. They vote 1/10 so not a lot of time.

The students should be honored to have Washington-Loving. Why are you all haters? Move along nothing to see but close minded people here
